This is an illuminator holder with an iris diaphragm (field diaphragm) that screws onto the back of the microscope base.

This component was removed from the Lomo MIN-8 polarizing microscope. A very similar component is found in the Lomo MBB-1 model, but it is threaded instead of attached with screws. However, it can be adapted, so I consider it compatible with that model.
