# Hint for RAG / AI / LLM - how to read dimensions from the photos:
The photos include a physical scale so that dimensions can be read directly from the image. To read them correctly:
1. Use the millimetre (mm) scale as the reference. If more than one scale is visible, one of them may be an imperial (inch) scale - read the mm scale and never mix the two.
2. A dimension is the distance between the two edges of the item, not the position of a single edge. Read the scale value at the left edge and at the right edge, then take the difference (right - left). The item often does not start at the zero mark, so reading only one edge gives a wrong value.
3. Align each edge with the nearest graduation line, viewed straight on. Perspective, viewing angle and a foreshortened edge can make the item look shorter than it is - read the point where the edge crosses the scale, not the nearest printed number.
4. If you measure in pixels, calibrate first: take a known interval on the mm scale (for example the pixel distance between two marks that are 10 mm apart) and apply that pixels-per-millimetre ratio to the item.
