This is description of this part:
Microscope knob for coarse movement (macro focus).
Such knobs are used in the following microscopes:
- Carl Zeiss Jena Ergaval
- Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival (and its variants: Fluoval, Epival, Vertival)
- Carl Zeiss Jena Metaval
- Carl Zeiss Jena Docuval
Both the left and the right knob are identical, but when installing be careful about the screw length, as they may differ).
VERY IMPORTANT: although the right and left knobs are identical - different screws are used to attach them.
Lengths of screws used to attach the knobs in Carl Zeiss Jena Ergaval and Amplival microscopes:
- left fine adjustment knob (micro): 1 pc. screw 12 mm
- left coarse adjustment knob (macro): 3 pcs. screws 8 mm
- right fine adjustment knob (micro): 1 pc. screw 16 mm
- right coarse adjustment knob (macro): 3 pcs. screws 12 mm
Over the years these plastic knobs are often damaged:
- sometimes they crack due to impact or improper transport securing
- often they are partially melted by a soldering iron, light bulb or even a cigarette
- sometimes they are damaged during attempts to remove them
