This is description of this part:
Professional Carl Zeiss Jena KP490 interference filter, 32 mm in diameter, intended for fluorescence excitation with blue light.
Basic parameters of this filter:
Manufacturer: Carl Zeiss Jena
Model: KP490
Type: interference excitation filter for fluorescence
Diameter: 32 mm
Colour: blue
Mirror coating: yes
Filters 32 mm in diameter can be used in most microscopes from many manufacturers. In Carl Zeiss Jena microscopes they can be used, among others, in the following fluorescence microscopes:
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed Fluorescence (Fluoreszenz)
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar
- Carl Zeiss Jena Fluoval
- Carl Zeiss Jena Laboval Fluorescence
Note - this is an interference filter, which you can tell from the mirrored surface. For that reason the angle at which the filter sits relative to the incoming light matters and affects its parameters.
The coating on interference filters is sensitive to mechanical damage, for example scratches from improper storage or cleaning. Age is a separate matter - several decades of work right next to the HBO lamp can cloud it or make it delaminate, which shows as patches or rainbow islands that do not disappear when you rotate it. In that case the best solution is to replace the filter with one like the one I offer here.
What is this part needed for?
- if you know the KP490 specification and this is exactly what you need (for example for a filter turret or for a blue excitation set)
- if your microscope has a Carl Zeiss Jena KP490 interference filter, but it is damaged or in very poor condition
- if you want to use this filter in your own DIY project or in a microscope from another manufacturer (for example Leica, Nikon, Leitz Wetzlar or Zeiss West Germany)
