The control panel offered here is an add-on component for the Leica DSC1 microtome. It gives fuller control over the sectioning parameters than the buttons on the front of the microtome housing.
This panel provides the following functions:
- setting the section thickness (SECT) and the trimming thickness (TRIM) in µm with the "-" and "+" keys
- adjusting the sectioning speed with the SPEED knob
- switching the operating mode with the TRIM/SECT key
- automatic approach of the block to the knife (AUTO APPROACH)
- starting and stopping the cutting motion with RUN/STOP pressed together with ENABLE
- moving the object head to the specimen change position (CHANGE OBJECT)
- coarse feed towards and away from the knife, at two speeds
- storing the working position with the SET key and returning to the base position (HOME)
- two three-digit displays, TRIM and SECT, showing the thickness in µm or the speed
- indicator lamps for drive status (MOT), stop (STOP), base position (HOME) and emergency stop (E-STOP)
- connection to the main unit of the microtome by a cable with a D-Sub 9-pin connector
Because this is an external component (plugged into the DB9 socket of the microtome), it is very often missing from microtomes offered on the second-hand market.
