This is description of this part:
Eyepiece tube with diopter adjustment ring for the Leitz Wetzlar 512821/20 microscope binocular head and similar heads.
This tube was removed from the Leitz Wetzlar binocular head P/N 512821/20 (also written 512 821) - but exactly the same tube is used in other models of binocular and trinocular heads as well.
The same front panel design is found in, among others, the Leitz 512 923/20 and Leitz 512 815 trinocular heads - this tube with diopter adjustment will most likely fit those too.
Diameter of the eyepieces it takes: 23.2 mm.
In the Leitz bino 512821/20 both the left and the right tube have diopter adjustment. They are mechanically identical parts - there is no difference between the left and the right tube. They can be swapped.
Before you decide to use this tube in a Leitz Wetzlar head other than model 512 821/20, first compare the exact dimensions (the photos show a millimetre scale), and if you have any doubts, ask in internet groups and forums.
This is a service part for a microscope head - not for a specific microscope model. Such a head can be mounted on many Leitz Wetzlar microscope models (and even on microscopes from other makers), so no list of microscopes this tube fits can be given - it fits the head, and the user mounts the head wherever he wants.
In the "compatibility" section I list a few example Leitz Wetzlar microscope models that turn up on the second-hand market complete with the head this tube comes from - but this is definitely not a complete list. They include:
- Leitz Wetzlar Dialux 20 / Dialux 22 EB
- Leitz Wetzlar Laborlux K / Laborlux S
- Leitz Wetzlar Diaplan
On the last photos in the gallery you can see the Leitz Wetzlar 512821/20 binocular head taken apart, with an arrow pointing to which part this is and where it sits in the head. That makes it unambiguous to identify.
What is this part needed for?
- very often this tube is dented and an eyepiece cannot be inserted
- very often the diopter adjustment ring becomes damaged and does not function
- if you want diopter adjustment on both eyepiece tubes and replace the simple tube with one equipped with an adjustment ring
- if you need a tube with precise worm adjustment for your own DIY purposes
