This is the front part of the microscope binocular head - the part into which the eyepiece tubes are screwed.
This mechanism was removed from a Leitz Wetzlar binocular head P/N 512582 - but exactly the same one is also used in other models of binocular and trinocular heads.
Before you use this mechanism (or one of its smaller components) in a Leitz Wetzlar head other than model 512582, first compare the exact dimensions - a millimetre scale is visible in the photos - and if in doubt, ask on internet groups and forums.
