This is description of this part:
Rotating polarizing microscope stage for transmitted light work for the Leitz Wetzlar SM-Pol polarizing microscope.
Manufacturer: Leitz Wetzlar
Type: stage for transmitted light work
Mounting method: this stage is attached to the microscope body using screws
Centering: in the Leitz Wetzlar SM-Pol microscope, this stage is centered using two screws
Many users of the Leitz Wetzlar SM microscope (or SM-D) ask the following question:
- Can I install the polarizing stage from the Leitz SM-Pol microscope into a Leitz SM microscope and thus convert it into a polarizing microscope?
- The answer is: No. The centering mechanism of this polarizing stage means that this stage is not compatible with the non-polarizing Leitz SM microscope. Moreover, the Leitz SM microscope differs from the polarizing SM-Pol model not only in the stage.
In the last photo, an arrow indicates which element is being offered and where it is located in the microscope, allowing this part to be identified unambiguously. Additionally, the attached video shows the movement mechanism of this stage.
What is this part needed for?
- as a service part if the stage in your microscope has been damaged
- if you would like to try installing this stage in another microscope
- if you need a precise rotating stage for your own DIY project, for example related to macro photography
