This is description of this part:
Monocular head with Bertrand lens for 30 mm eyepieces for the Leitz Wetzlar SM-Pol polarizing microscope.
This is a specialized head designed for a polarizing microscope. The head contains a built-in Bertrand lens that can be moved out of the optical path. This allows both standard orthoscopic and conoscopic observations to be performed.
Basic parameters:
Manufacturer: Leitz Wetzlar
Compatible eyepiece diameter: 30 mm
Compatible eyepiece type: both standard eyepieces and polarizing eyepieces with a positioning key
Bertrand lens: yes, with an adjustment knob
Compatible with: Leitz Wetzlar SM-Pol microscope
Important: the non-polarizing versions of the Leitz Wetzlar SM microscope (and the SM-D) use a different head mounting system, therefore this head is not compatible with those models.
In the last photograph, an arrow indicates exactly which component is being offered and where it is located within the microscope, allowing this part to be identified unambiguously. In addition, the attached video shows, among other things, the mechanism used to move the Bertrand lens.
What is this part needed for?
- if you own a Leitz SM-Pol polarizing microscope with a missing head
- if you own such a head but it is of very poor quality or damaged
- if you would like to keep such a head as a spare part
- if you would like to install it in another microscope (which may require DIY modifications)
