This is description of this part:
Angled prism for the monocular microscope head of LOMO Biolam microscopes and similar models.
This is the only prism inside a monocular microscope head of the kind used in microscopes of the LOMO Biolam class.
The prism measures 30 mm in length and 17 mm in width and is held inside the head by a metal plate, which is screwed to the cast housing of the head and presses the prism into position. Both this clamping plate and the screws are included and can be seen in the gallery photos.
Replacing the prism may be necessary in the following cases, among others:
- when the prism mount works loose over the years, the prism falls out of its seat and is mechanically damaged as a result
- when the mirrored surface inside the prism oxidises and the prism loses its properties
- when the surface of the prism is attacked by mould or scratched mechanically, for example as a result of improper cleaning
The last photo shows a LOMO Biolam R-1 microscope with an arrow pointing to the place inside the head where this prism sits. It also matters that the photo shows what this head model looks like, the one the prism offered here fits.
Monocular heads of this kind, which this angled prism fits, may be mounted on the following microscopes, among others:
- Lomo Erudit (ЛОМО Эрудит)
- Lomo Biolam 70
- Lomo Micmed-1
- Lomo Biolam Д1 / Д2 / Д3 / Д11 / Д12 / Д13 (the "D" series - portable models)
- Lomo Biolam C1 / C2 / C3 / C11 / C12 / C13 (the "S" series - student models)
- Lomo Biolam P1 / P2 / P3 / P4 / P5 / P6 / P7 / P11 / P12 / P13 / P14 / P15 / P16 / P17 (the "R" series - working models)
- sold in Germany under the names Bresser Biolam and Bresser Erudit, including the most recent versions with illumination built into the base
- and the same microscopes sold in the United Kingdom under the name Zenith Biolam
Although some of the microscope versions listed above were originally sold with the LOMO AU-12 binocular head, they are often found on the second-hand market with monocular heads. That is precisely why I have included them in the list here.
A comparison table of first-generation Lomo Biolam microscope models (with one digit in the model name) can be seen here: https://www.microscopeparts.eu/photo/99964-1.
A comparison table of second-generation Lomo Biolam microscope models (with two digits in the model name) can be seen here: https://www.microscopeparts.eu/photo/99983-5.
What is this part needed for?
- as a service part to be fitted into the monocular head of a LOMO Biolam microscope, when the prism in the head currently in use is damaged or of very poor quality
- if you want to use this prism to repair another microscope head
- if you want to use this prism for your own optical DIY project
