The two digits after the letter in the Biolam microscope model name (as in Pxx here, meaning P12) indicate models with a fine-travel adjustment (micro-travel) located in the foot.
This is a cap that covers and holds the spring, which is part of the fine-travel mechanism.
The plate also contains the serial number, which begins with the year of manufacture.
