This is description of this part:
Round dovetail mount of the head of the Nikon SMZ-10 stereo microscope.
This is the part of the head that sits on its underside and by which the head is mounted to the microscope body.
This round dovetail has a diameter of 60 mm.
The mount has two openings - one for each optical path. There is no optics in the openings - they are simply "empty holes" and this is their factory condition. It is true that in some stereo microscope heads the secondary objectives sit in the dovetail itself (for example in the PZO MST-130 microscope) - but in the Nikon SMZ-10 microscopes they sit on a separate element located deeper inside the head.
The last photo in the gallery has an arrow marking which element this is and where it sits in the head of the stereo microscope. This allows unambiguous identification.
This mount can be successfully used for your own DIY projects, to fit it into a different head and adapt that head to the Nikon 60 mm standard.
