This is description of this part:
Right inclining prism from the head of the Nikon SMZ-10 stereo microscope.
In the Nikon SMZ-10 stereo microscope each of the two optical paths (one per eye) consists of:
- the zoom lens group
- the secondary objective
- the inclining prism
- the erecting prism
- the eyepiece
Offered here is the inclining prism for the right optical path. The prism sits in its matching cradle (holder) made of cast metal.
The last three photos in the gallery are drawings from the service manual of the Nikon SMZ-10 microscope, and an arrow on them marks which element this is and where it sits in the head of the stereo microscope.
Replacing the inclining prism in the stereo head of the Nikon SMZ-10 microscope can help when:
- the prism has mechanical damage, e.g. scratches, cracks, chips or flaking
- the silver reflective coating inside the prism has oxidised and lost its properties
- the metal cradle holding the prism is broken
What is this part needed for?
- if this prism in your Nikon SMZ-10 stereo microscope is damaged or of very poor quality - notes on the possible damage are given in the description
