This is description of this part:
A pair of secondary objectives from the head of the Nikon SMZ-10 stereo microscope.
Each of the two secondary objectives is in fact a single lens screwed into a profiled metal casting, and that casting is an internal part of the stereo head housing.
In the Nikon SMZ-10 stereo microscope each of the two optical paths (one for each eye) consists of:
- the zoom lens group
- the secondary objective
- the inclining prism
- the erecting prism
- the eyepiece
Offered here are both secondary objectives (the objective pair) as a single assembly in a common housing.
The last two photos in the gallery are drawings from the service manual of the Nikon SMZ-10 microscope; arrows mark which part is meant and where it sits in the head of the stereo microscope.
Replacing one or both secondary objectives in the stereo head of the Nikon SMZ-10 microscope can help when:
- one of the lenses has mechanical damage, e.g. scratches, cracks, chips or flaking
- the anti-reflective coating on the lens has been worn off or damaged, e.g. by fungus
- the metal casting holding the objectives is cracked or broken
What is this part needed for?
- if in your Nikon SMZ-10 stereo microscope one or both secondary objectives are damaged or in very poor condition
- the description lists examples of faults for which this service part may be needed
