This is description of this part:
Mirror module with image switch for the trinocular port of the stereo head of the Nikon SMZ-10 microscope.
The Nikon SMZ-10 stereo microscope in the trinocular version has a photo output in the form of a tube that takes a photo eyepiece (https://www.microscopeparts.eu/part/99891).
At the back of the head there is a switch that selects whether the image from the right or from the left optical path is sent to the trinocular output. On the outside this is done by a short knob. It shifts the set of mirrors sitting inside the head. This complete module is what is offered here.
This is an element exposed to many kinds of damage:
- the knob can get lost after unscrewing
- the knob can break off
- the mirrors can come loose from the metal frame they are glued to, and then they crack or chip easily
- the reflective surface of the mirrors can oxidise
In that case the best solution is to replace the whole module and in this way regain the ability to take photos with the stereo microscope.
The last photos in the gallery have an arrow marking which element this is and where exactly it sits in the head of the stereo microscope. This allows unambiguous identification.
What is this part needed for?
- as a service part in the form of replacing the complete module, if this element in the stereo head of your Nikon SMZ-10 microscope is damaged or of very poor quality
