This is description of this part:
Complete reflected light setup for EPI illumination in brightfield and darkfield for Olympus BX microscopes
This complete set consists of the following parts:
- Olympus U-RLA reflected light illuminator, switchable between brightfield and darkfield
- Olympus U-D5BDRE nosepiece holding 5 BD objectives with M26 thread
- four Olympus microscope objectives with M26 thread for brightfield and darkfield work, listed separately further down in the description
- Olympus U-LH100L 100W halogen lamphouse
- Olympus TH3 power supply, 100W 12V, for 220-240V mains
- Olympus U-POT polarizer for work in transmitted polarized light
- Olympus U-ANT analyzer in the nosepiece slider, working together with the polarizer
The following microscope objectives are included in the set:
- Olympus MPlan 5x/0.10 BD ∞/-
- Olympus MPlan 20x/0.40 BD ∞/0
- Olympus MPlan 50x/0.75 BD ∞/0
- Olympus MPlan 100x/0.90 BD ∞/0
This set is intended for work with the following microscopes:
- Olympus BX41 / BX50 / BX51 / BX53 / BX60 / BX61 and their M variants
- Olympus BX40 after fitting the U-READB adapter for interchangeable nosepieces
- Olympus MX40 / MX50 / MX51 / MX61 / MX63
A complete EPI reflected light setup like this is typically used for:
- metallurgy
- materials science
- electronics (both for inspection and photography of integrated circuits)
- mineralogy (including viewing thin sections in transmitted polarized light)
- numismatics
- philately
- entomology
- observation of micrometeorites
- study of microfossils
- super macro photography
One more thing that can cause confusion when looking for parts: Olympus microscopes are no longer manufactured by Olympus. In April 2022 Olympus spun off the division responsible for microscopes, which became the separate company Evident, and from the following year that company has been operating independently. The Olympus name was still used on the products themselves for some time, which is why today you come across both equipment carrying the Olympus name and the same equipment under the Evident brand. Apart from the name on the housing, nothing has changed in the technical or optical design of the microscopes (as of November 2026). So - this set, which extends microscopes with reflected light capability, fits microscopes sold under both brands, Olympus as well as Evident.
What is this part needed for?
- If you want to extend your Olympus BX / MX microscope with EPI reflected light capability
