Parameters of the Zeiss 45 21 49 lens:
Lens type: infinity corrected tube lens
Diameter including the mount: 38.5 mm
Thread: M36 x 0.75 (that is, 36 mm in diameter)
Anti-reflective coating: yes
This particular lens was removed from the Carl Zeiss P/N 45 21 43 head. The same tube lens model is fitted in various head models for Zeiss Axioplan 2 microscopes:

- Zeiss 452143
- Zeiss 452145
- Zeiss 452146
The Zeiss 452149 tube lens is necessary, among other things, to use infinity corrected Zeiss microscope objectives on microscopes of other manufacturers - including those with a finite 160 mm tube length. It is also very often used in super macro photography, to connect infinity corrected objectives to a photo camera.
This part can be the answer to the following questions:
- What to do when the Zeiss 452149 tube lens is damaged, scratched or of poor quality?
- Can Zeiss objectives be used on a microscope from another manufacturer?
- Can infinity corrected objectives be used on a 160 mm type microscope?
- How to take super macro photos using infinity corrected microscope objectives?
What is this part needed for?
- if this tube lens is missing in the head or in the tube of your microscope
- if your tube lens is damaged or of very poor quality, for example when fungus has attacked its anti-reflective coating
- if you want to use Carl Zeiss objectives on microscopes of other manufacturers, designed for a different tube length
