This is description of this part:
ICS tube lens (infinity-corrected system) for the Carl Zeiss Axiovert 100M microscope
In the inverted microscopes Zeiss Axiovert 100 / 100M / 135 the microscope objectives are corrected for infinity, so an intermediate optic in the form of a tube lens is required to create the intermediate image. In this case it has to be a lens of the Zeiss ICS system with a focal length of 164.5 mm.
In this series of inverted microscopes the tube lens sits below the nosepiece. The last photos in the gallery show the stand of the Carl Zeiss Axiovert 100M microscope, with an arrow pointing to the exact place where this lens is located. This allows you to identify the part without any doubt.
According to the manufacturer this is not a part intended to be replaced by the user, so there is no catalogue number either on the lens mount or on the aluminium profile into which this lens is screwed.
I was not able to confirm it, but it is possible that this ICS tube lens also fits the inverted microscopes Zeiss Axiovert 135 / 135M. Before you decide to use it in the Axiovert 135 / 135M models, please check this on forums or groups devoted to Zeiss microscopes.
What is this part needed for?
- if this tube lens is missing from the stand of your inverted Zeiss Axiovert microscope
- if your tube lens is damaged or in very poor condition, for example when fungus has attacked its anti-reflective coating
- if you want to use Carl Zeiss objectives on microscopes of other manufacturers that are designed for a different tube length
