This is description of this part:
Rubber seal on its mounting plate, protecting the shaft that raises the objective nosepiece in the Carl Zeiss ICM 405 / IM 35 inverted microscopes.
In the Zeiss IM 35 and Zeiss ICM 405 inverted microscopes, focusing is done by raising and lowering the nosepiece with the objectives. To make that possible - the nosepiece sits on a shaft that travels out of and back into the inside of the microscope body through an opening in the housing. To keep dirt from reaching the mechanism by that same route - the opening is protected with a rubber seal.
This is exactly the seal I offer here, together with its mounting plate.
The same nosepiece movement mechanism and the same way of keeping dust out with a rubber seal are used in the Zeiss Axiovert 10 / 35 / 405 M inverted microscopes - but whether the seal from the IM 35 / ICM 405 models fits those, I was not able to confirm. It is quite possible - but before you decide to use this seal on an Axiovert series microscope - compare its shape and dimensions carefully (a millimetre scale is visible in the photos).
Over the years this rubber seal often gets damaged, and then you can either fit something improvised - or replace it with an original, which, as in this case - is only available on the secondhand market.
The last photo in the gallery shows the body of the Zeiss IM 35 microscope, with an arrow pointing to where this rubber seal sits in the microscope. This allows the part described here to be identified beyond any doubt.
What is this part needed for?
- as a service part to replace the worn rubber seal in your Carl Zeiss IM 35 / ICM 405 inverted microscope
