This is description of this part:
Cable supplying the exposure automation, to the power supply, with 22 pin plug, 2x10 + 2 flat contacts, from the base of the Carl Zeiss Photomicroscope III microscope
This is one of two cables coming out of the base of the Zeiss Photomicroscope III microscope. The following cables come out of it:
- with a 12 pin plug (2x6)
- with a 22 pin plug (2x10 + 2)
The cable presented here ends with a 22 pin plug, that is 10 rows of two flat contacts each plus two single contacts in the middle. In the Zeiss manual the matching socket on the power supply is described as a 22 pole socket for the supply voltages of the automatic exposure control. There is no standard designation on the plug - only the marking "Siemens" and the letter "R" are visible.
The cable was tested before being removed from a working microscope. The plug is fully functional, its plastic housing is neither broken nor crumbled, and all contacts are straight. Attaching / soldering on the base side has to be taken care of on your own.
Several names are used for this microscope model, among others:
- Carl Zeiss Photomicroscope III
- Carl Zeiss Phomi III
- Carl Zeiss PM III
- Zeiss Photomicroscope III RS
- Zeiss Phomi 3
- Zeiss PM3 RS
Replacing this cable can solve, among others, the following problems:
- when the microscope has a cut off cable, which is common when it comes from an institution that scraps electrical equipment this way
- when the microscope has a cable with a plug whose housing is broken, cracked or chipped
- when the microscope has a cable ending in a plug with broken off flat contacts
- when the microscope has a cable in which the plug has a damaged latch
I have not found a new 22 pole plug in the current catalogues of the makers of this blade connector family - this pole count falls outside the range produced today. What remains is the second hand market. An original, working cable with a period plug saves you that search.
What is this part needed for?
- if you own a microscope without this cable, or with a damaged cable or plug
- a list of several cases in which replacing the cable may be necessary can be found in the description
