This is description of this part:
Illuminator holder with a light-collimating lens and frosted ground glass for Carl Zeiss Standard microscopes.
This microscope component is located inside the microscope base. It transfers the light beam from the illuminator, homogenises it (the image of the filament is diffused by means of a diffuser), and then properly collimates it using a collimating lens. The prepared light beam is then directed to the deflecting mirror (this is a separate microscope component).
This is part of the transmitted-light optical path. The diffuser (frosted ground glass) and the collimating lens are housed inside a metal enclosure that serves as a heat sink for the halogen lamp. The complete assembly forms the illuminator housing.
This particular collector with frosted ground glass was removed from a Carl Zeiss Photomicroscope (also known as Zeiss PM / Zeiss Phomi).

VERY IMPORTANT: This component is intended for the 6V 15W incandescent illuminator. Zeiss microscopes may be equipped either with a 6V 15W incandescent illuminator (a tubular illuminator inserted into the microscope base) or with an external halogen Lampenhaus mounted to the rear of the microscope base. Microscope versions equipped with a halogen illuminator use a different illuminator holder than the one presented here.
