As visible in the photos and in the video - it can be pulled out, and then it becomes a "normal" stage for work with transmitted light (although of course it lacks the clips that hold the specimen slide). This particular stage worked in a Hertel & Reuss Metall microscope. YES - "Metall" is the model name and not a statement that the microscope is made of metal.
