The set includes the light source (bulb).
Note - originally these illuminators work with Olympus NEO series objectives, but I have seen DIY modifications for standard RMS objectives.

Notes: the absence of any marking on the slider suggests that it is not a pull-out slider, but is permanently mounted in the EPI reflected light illuminator - it can, however, be moved between the empty position and the polarizer position
If you want to use this slider in a different microscope - check the shape and the exact dimensions shown in the photos.
Please note - the commonly used terminology is slightly disordered, and foreign as well as incorrect names are often used. The most common mistake is that the analyzer is called a polarizer - and unfortunately this mistake is so frequent that it has to be taken into account. Here are examples of the names in use:

The prism is housed in a suitably shaped metal casing. On one side there is a male thread, on the other a female thread. Mechanically, the prism is screwed with its male thread into the objective nosepiece - and the Olympus Neo SPlan 20 0.46 ∞/0 f=180 objective is screwed into its female thread.
This prism is essential for reflected light observation using the DIC technique. With this technique, details of the observed surface appear three-dimensional and raised, revealing details that remain invisible in classic reflected light brightfield.
