Lomo AU-12 binocular head for Lomo Biolam (Bresser Biolam) microscope (Carl Zeiss Jena)

The name of this microscope part.

Lomo AU-12 Binocular Microscope Head for Lomo microscopes, e.g. Lomo Biolam (and Bresser Biolam) and Carl Zeiss Jena (bino head)

Description of this part for the microscope.

Manufacturer: Lomo (Russia, after 1991)
Model: AU-12 export version without manufacturer's name
Color: newest, white
Magnification: 1.5x
Eyepieces: 23. ...

2 mm
Mounting: 41 mm dovetail (Carl Zeiss Jena standard)

The head features adjustable interpupillary distance and diopter adjustment for one eyepiece.

This export version was sold in Western Europe, primarily under the Bresser brand. Biolam microscopes were sold under this name (thus as Bresser Biolam). NOTE - a small batch of these microscopes was sold under the Bresser Erudit name - but the "Erudit" is now a completely different Bresser microscope.

This is an exact clone of the Carl Zeiss Jena microscope head and is therefore very commonly used for these microscopes.

Note: The 1.5x magnification head requires a relatively large amount of light. Furthermore, the optimal image is obtained with 7x or 8x eyepieces (the maximum is 10x). Higher eyepiece magnification results in "empty magnification" and the image may not be sharp.

Hertel & Reuss BFO microscope trinocular head

The name of this microscope part.

Hertel & Reuss BFO microscope trinocular head

Description of this part for the microscope.

Very rarely encountered on the used equipment market trinocular microscope head manufactured by Hertel & Reuss.

Manufacturer: Hertel & Reuss
Model: BFO (= ...

B=bino, FO = foto)
Eyepiece diameter: 23.2 mm
Mounting diameter: 50 mm
Photo thread: 24 mm (M24)

A trinocular head is a binocular microscope head with an additional third optical port for connecting a camera or photographic device.

This particular unit comes from a Hertel & Reuss Studio II microscope, but it also works with any other microscope model from this manufacturer that has an interchangeable head with a mounting diameter of 50 mm.
NOTE - as far as I remember, not all H&R microscopes have an easily interchangeable head; this applies, for example, to the Primus model.

NOTE - some microscope models from Steindorff Berlin also have a head mounting diameter of 50 mm and are fully compatible with H&R heads - an example of such a microscope with a Hertel & Reuss head can be seen on Facebook at the following address: https://www.facebook.com/groups/136833493390496/posts/1722336908173472/

PZO Biolar FL - microscope monocular head with OG1 / GG9 fluorescence filter

The name of this microscope part.

PZO Biolar FL - microscope monocular head with OG1 / GG9 fluorescence filter

Description of this part for the microscope.

This is an original monocular microscope head (so-called monocular) with a mounted fluorescence barrier filter.

Basic parameters.
Manufacturer: PZO
Item: ...

Monocular microscope head for a fluorescence microscope
Model: PZO MNJ-4
Mounting method: dovetail, diameter 43 mm
Supported eyepieces: 23.2 mm
Mounted filter: OG1 / GG9
For microscopes: PZO Biolar FL and PZO MB-30 FL

Why are monocular microscope heads often used in fluorescence microscopy? Fluorescence microscopy (especially older designs) produces a relatively dark image, so it is beneficial for 100% of the light beam to reach a single eye. A binocular microscope head would split the light 50% to each eye, which could result in an image that is too dark.

The barrier fluorescence filter PZO OG1 / GG9 mounted under the microscope head protects the eyes from the harmful spectrum of fluorescence illumination.

Note - there is also a PZO GG9 fluorescence filter (also available in my catalog). It is important to select the correct filters for the appropriate applications.

The OG1 / GG9 filter is a separate element that can be detached from the microscope head. It is mounted under the microscope head in a dedicated slot provided for this purpose.

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval / Jenamed microscope widefield binocular, 30 mm GF-Pw 10x (25) eyepieces

Description of this part for the microscope.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval / Jenamed microscope widefield binocular head with 30 mm GF-Pw 10x (25) eyepieces

Microscope head parameters:
Manufacturer: Carl Zeiss ...

Jena
Name: Grossfeld Binocular
Eyepiece mounting diameter: 30 mm
Microscope mount: 41 mm dovetail mount
Diopter adjustment: yes, for one eyepiece

The set also includes two eyepieces:
- Model: Carl Zeiss Jena GF-Pw 10x (25)
- Mounting diameter: 30 mm

This head is most commonly used in the following microscopes:
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenapol
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenvert

Omax M82e / M83e microscope trinocular photo camera head adapter

The name of this microscope part.

Omax M82e / M83e microscope trinocular photo camera head adapter

Description of this part for the microscope.

Trinocular head for Omax M82e and M83e microscopes.

This is a binocular microscope head with an additional (third) port for connecting a camera or microscope ...

camera. It allows microphotography and video recording.

This head may be installed on Omax M82e / M83e microscopes in the following situations:
- if you have an Omax M82e microscope with a binocular head and would like to connect a camera. Installing this trinocular head solves that problem.
- if you already own a microscope with a trinocular head, namely the Omax M83e model, but the head or the optics inside it have become damaged.
- if the built-in digital camera in an Omax MD82ES10 microscope has become damaged.

The Omax M83e microscope differs from the M82e and MD82ES10 models primarily in that:
- the M82e model is equipped with a binocular head
- the M83e model is equipped with a trinocular head with a photo port
- the MD82ES10 model is equipped with a binocular head incorporating a digital camera

By installing this head on an Omax M82e microscope, the functionality of the M82e can be upgraded to that of the M83e.

Basic technical parameters:
- Supported eyepiece diameter: 23.2 mm
- Mounting method to microscope stand: 39 mm dovetail mount
- Photo port type: standard 23.2 mm tube
- Intended use: biological microscopes with 160 mm tube length

This head is sometimes adapted for microscopes made by other manufacturers. If a larger dovetail mounting diameter is required, the mounting surface is commonly enlarged accordingly.

Leitz SM-Pol polarizing microscope 30 mm monocular head with Bertrand lens

The name of this microscope part.

Leitz SM-Pol polarizing microscope 30 mm monocular head with Bertrand lens

Description of this part for the microscope.

Monocular head with Bertrand lens for 30 mm eyepieces for the Leitz Wetzlar SM-Pol polarizing microscope.

This is a specialized head designed for a polarizing ...

microscope. The head contains a built-in Bertrand lens that can be moved out of the optical path. This allows both standard orthoscopic and conoscopic observations to be performed.

Basic parameters:
Manufacturer: Leitz Wetzlar
Compatible eyepiece diameter: 30 mm
Compatible eyepiece type: both standard eyepieces and polarizing eyepieces with a positioning key
Bertrand lens: yes, with an adjustment knob
Compatible with: Leitz Wetzlar SM-Pol microscope

Important: the non-polarizing versions of the Leitz Wetzlar SM microscope (and the SM-D) use a different head mounting system, therefore this head is not compatible with those models.

In the last photograph, an arrow indicates exactly which component is being offered and where it is located within the microscope, allowing this part to be identified unambiguously. In addition, the attached video shows, among other things, the mechanism used to move the Bertrand lens.

Meopta RU2 / DRU-3 polarizing microscope monocular eyepiece head with adjustable draw tube with 150 mm - 190 mm scale

The name of this microscope part.

Meopta RU2 / DRU-3 polarizing microscope monocular eyepiece head with adjustable draw tube with 150 mm - 190 mm scale

Description of this part for the microscope.

Monocular eyepiece head with an adjustable draw tube providing a variable tube length from 150 mm to 190 mm for the Meopta RU2 / DRU-3 polarizing microscope. ...

This is a dedicated eyepiece head for a polarizing microscope. It features:
- an adjustable draw tube with an engraved 150 mm – 190 mm scale
- a groove at the top of the eyepiece tube for locking the polarizing eyepiece in a fixed rotational position
- a locating pin (threaded pin) in the dovetail mount securing the head to the microscope body, allowing the head to be locked in a fixed position

Basic dimensions and specifications:
Compatible eyepiece diameter: 23.2 mm
Microscope body mounting type: dovetail
Dovetail diameter: 40.5 mm (compatible with, among others, Carl Zeiss Jena and Lomo microscopes)
TL scale range: 150 mm to 190 mm

The adjustable draw tube allows the use of microscope objectives corrected for different tube lengths (TL), for example:
- common polarizing objectives with TL = 160 mm (e.g. Carl Zeiss Jena and most other manufacturers)
- commonly encountered objectives with TL = 170 mm (e.g. older Leitz Wetzlar or Meopta)
- polarizing objectives with TL = 190 mm (e.g. Lomo)

Important: When calculating the total tube length (TL), the thickness of the mounting flange of the microscope eyepiece must also be taken into account.

Carl Zeiss Jena Pictoval microscope monocular head for eyepiece with 23,2mm diameter | projection tube

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Pictoval microscope monocular head for eyepiece with 23,2mm diameter | projection tube

Description of this part for the microscope.

Monocular microscope head with adjustable tube tilt angle for eyepieces with a 23.2 mm mounting diameter.

This model of microscope head was used as a projection ...

head in Carl Zeiss Jena Pictoval projection microscopes (microprojectors). The adjustable tilt angle of the eyepiece tube, which held a projection eyepiece (usually f=100), allowed the position of the projected image on the projection surface to be changed.

Basic parameters:
Manufacturer: Carl Zeiss Jena
Eyepiece mounting diameter: 23.2 mm
Mounting to the microscope arm: 41 mm diameter dovetail ring

Because this microscope head has a Carl Zeiss Jena standard microscope mount (a 41 mm diameter dovetail ring), it can be mounted on most microscopes from this manufacturer (e.g. Carl Zeiss Jena Eduval, Laboval, Ergaval, Amplival, etc.), as well as on microscopes made by Lomo (e.g. Lomo Biolam), IOR and Meopta.

It seems useful to mention a few points:
- never look through this microscope head with the naked eye if a projection eyepiece is installed in it and the head is mounted in a Carl Zeiss Jena Pictoval microprojector. This may result in loss of eyesight due to the very high light output emitted by this microscope
- when mounting this microscope head on a microscope other than a Carl Zeiss Jena Pictoval, a different magnification scale may be obtained than with the original heads designed for the particular microscope model
- projecting a microscope image requires a great deal of light, i.e. a powerful illuminator. This is worth remembering if you intend to use this head to project an image from biological microscopes with standard incandescent illumination (e.g. 15 W 6 V), which is definitely not sufficient
- visual observation using this microscope head may be inconvenient because it has a different (smaller) tilt angle than standard monocular or binocular microscope heads

AmScope T720Q microscope trinocular head with photo and camera tube

The name of this microscope part.

AmScope T720Q microscope trinocular head with photo and camera tube

Description of this part for the microscope.

Binocular microscope head with a third output for a camera or photo camera, i.e. a trinocular microscope head for the AmScope T720 microscope.

This is a fully ...

integrated element that is mechanically mounted at the very top of the AmScope T720 / T720Q microscope. It consists of:
- binocular eyepiece head
- angled tube
- output for the third optical light path, i.e. photo output

Basic technical parameters:
Manufacturer: AmScope
For model: AmScope T720 series microscopes
Diameter of supported eyepieces: 30 mm
Method of mounting to the microscope: dovetail with a diameter of 52 mm
Photo output diameter: 23.2 mm internal, 32 mm external

Replacement of the microscope head in the AmScope T720 may be necessary, for example:
- if you have a microscope purchased on the used market and the microscope head is missing, which is not uncommon because this element can be unscrewed
- if the binocular head has broken off from the entire upper photo tube in your microscope. Such damage is common when the microscope is hit during transport
- if the optics in the existing microscope head have been damaged: lenses or prisms. This may include scratches caused by improper cleaning, delamination of prisms, or cracked lenses
