This is description of this part:
Sheet metal base cover for the Olympus CHK microscope. The retaining screw for mounting this cover to the microscope base is also included.
This cover performs several functions:
- it protects the electrical components built into the microscope base
- it protects the bulb located inside the microscope base
- it acts as a heat sink, dissipating the heat generated by the bulb
The last photograph in the gallery shows the complete Olympus CHK microscope. An arrow indicates exactly which component this is and where it is located, making it easy to identify correctly.
A large proportion of Olympus CHK microscopes available on the second-hand market are missing this cover. During many years of use, this sheet metal cover had to be removed whenever the bulb was replaced, and it was often never reinstalled afterwards.
Owners solve this problem in various ways, often using thick cardboard or a plastic cover. However, only a metal cover also performs the function of a heat sink.
