This is description of this part:
Transmitted light collector with a flip-out wide field lens and mirror prism for the Reichert Austria Zetopan microscope.
Mechanically, this collector is located inside the microscope base beneath the condenser. It is secured from above with three screws. The collector housing also incorporates a holder for 32 mm round filters.
This component performs several functions:
- it collimates the light beam
- it also serves as a holder for round filters
- it redirects the horizontal light beam coming from the lamp house vertically upwards
- the flip-out wide field lens provides even illumination of the entire specimen when using low-magnification objectives
Replacement of this collector in a Reichert Zetopan microscope may be necessary in the following situations, among others:
- if this component is missing because someone removed it, for example during an unfinished repair
- if the upper protective glass of the collector has been broken
- if the mechanism operating the flip-out wide field lens has been damaged
- if - as often happens - the mirror prism has been damaged, broken, or its reflective surface has deteriorated through oxidation
