The Steindorff 10x objective is also suitable for macro photography, as it does not require a cover glass and allows direct projection onto the camera sensor without intermediate optics.
This is a so-called “short objective”, with a parfocal length of 37 mm. It is particularly common to mount this objective on an 8 mm extension, which makes it possible to use the objective in microscopes requiring objectives with a parfocal length of 45 mm. Both professional adapters with protective optics and metal adapters, as well as popular DIY solutions made with a 3D printer, work well for this purpose.
Like a large proportion of microscope objectives manufactured in Germany in the 1960s and 1970s, this objective has a parfocal length of 37 mm and a tube length of 170 mm. This means that it is often used as a replacement objective for other German microscopes, such as:

- Hertel & Reuss
- Steinmar Berlin
- CBS Beck Kassel
- ROW Rathenow
This objective fits practically any microscope from any manufacturer, provided that it has an RMS thread and supports objectives designed for TL = 170 mm and with a parfocal length of 33 / 37 mm (or 45 mm when using a suitable adapter).
