This is description of this part:
Carl Zeiss (West Germany) microscope objective with 40x magnification, for Ph2 phase contrast.
Basic parameters:
Manufacturer: Carl Zeiss West Germany
Designation: Ph2 F40/0,65 160/0,17
Manufacturer catalogue number: 46 07 06
Magnification: 40x
Correction: Semi-planachromatic
Numerical aperture N.A.: 0.65
Tube length: 160 mm
Parfocal length: 45 mm
Cover glass: yes, 0.17 mm thick
Immersion: no (a so-called dry objective)
Thread: RMS
Phase contrast: yes, the objective has an internal phase ring matching the Ph2 position in the condenser
Specimen protection: yes, the objective has a spring-loaded mechanism that protects the slide from being crushed
The letter "F" at the beginning of the objective model name (F 40 / 0.65) means that this is a semi-planachromatic objective, i.e. flatter than an achromat but less flat than a planachromat. "F" does not mean that the objective is intended for work with fluorescence light.
This objective fits practically any microscope from any manufacturer, provided it has an RMS thread and accepts 160 mm tube length objectives with a parfocal length of 33, 37 or 45 mm. A few example microscopes are listed in the "compatibility" section, but that list is not complete.
What is this part needed for?
- If you have a microscope without objectives and need to restock it using original parts
- If you have a microscope that doesn't have an objective lens with this magnification and want to restock it
- If you have such an objective lens, but it's of very poor quality or damaged
- If you're cautious and want to have a spare objective lens
