Objective nosepiece mounting holder (with male dovetail) - a component of the intermediate tube of Carl Zeiss Universal and Photomicroscope microscopes.
In Zeiss Universal / Zeiss Photomicroscope class microscopes, the intermediate tube (https://www.microscopeparts.eu/part/99571) contains a mounting part onto which the nosepiece is slid. This nosepiece holder is identical in intermediate tubes without a magnification changer and in those with an Optovar.
This is exactly the part offered here - the holder used to attach the nosepiece to the intermediate tube.
This nosepiece holder includes:
- a male dovetail for mounting the nosepiece
- a clamping screw that locks the nosepiece in place once fitted
- an empty slot for an optional narrow slider
- two blanking covers for this slot
- an empty slot for a wide filter slider
This holder fits the intermediate tubes used in the following microscopes:
- Zeiss Universal
- Zeiss Photomicroscope I
- Zeiss Photomicroscope II
- Zeiss Photomicroscope III / III RS
- Zeiss Ultraphot
This is a service part for those who need to replace this component in their microscope. It is neither a complete nosepiece nor a complete intermediate tube.
Replacing this nosepiece holder can remedy, among others, the following problems:
- if the nosepiece wobbles after being mounted in the tube, slides on too easily and does not sit firmly
- if the nosepiece clamping screw is bent, broken off or lost
- if the slider slot is damaged
Over the years, the Carl Zeiss Photomicroscope series microscopes have acquired various names that users commonly call them by. These include, among others:
- Zeiss Photomikroskop
- PM, e.g. Zeiss PM II or Zeiss PM III
- Zeiss Phomi, e.g. Zeiss Phomi II
It is also worth mentioning that Zeiss Photomicroscope microscopes were also sold under the Opton brand.
See the last photos in the gallery: one shows a complete intermediate tube, with an arrow indicating which part this is and exactly where it is located. The other shows two intermediate tubes side by side - one with the Zeiss logo and an integrated magnification changer, and one with the Opton brand logo, without a magnification changer. The comparison shows that both tubes have the same nosepiece mounting holder.
