This is description of this part:
4-position, grey, interchangeable objective nosepiece for the LOMO Biolam microscopes and similar models.
This objective nosepiece fits the following microscopes, among others:
- Lomo Erudit (ЛОМО Эрудит)
- Lomo Biolam 70
- Lomo Micmed-1
- Lomo Biolam Д1 / Д2 / Д3 / Д11 / Д12 / Д13 (D series - portable)
- Lomo Biolam C1 / C2 / C3 / C11 / C12 / C13 (S series - for students)
- Lomo Biolam P1 / P2 / P3 / P4 / P5 / P6 / P7 / P11 / P12 / P13 / P14 / P15 / P16 / P17 (R series - working microscopes)
- the microscopes sold in Germany under the names Bresser Biolam and Bresser Erudit, including the newest ones with illumination integrated into the base
- and the same microscopes sold in the United Kingdom under the name Zenith Biolam
In addition, this nosepiece can be used in the older, black LOMO microscopes (although it will not look elegant):
- Lomo MBI-1 (ЛОМО МБИ-1)
- Lomo MBR-1 / MBR-3 (ЛОМО МБР-1 / МБР-3)
- Lomo MBB-1A (ЛОМО МББ-1A)
Why should every microscope user own more than one objective nosepiece?
LOMO microscopes - both the older silver and black models and the newer grey and the newest white ones - have an interchangeable objective nosepiece. This is an excellent solution, because it lets you own, use and quickly swap whole sets of objectives.
You can, for example, have separate nosepieces with the objectives already screwed in:
- a set of low-magnification objectives for macro observation with side illumination, without a cover glass (for example 2.5x / 3.2x / 5x / 8x)
- a complete set of phase contrast objectives (marked Ф or Ф-2)
- a complete set of objectives for work with water immersion (marked ВИ)
- a complete set of objectives that all work with oil immersion (marked МИ)
- a whole set of apochromatic objectives for better colours (marked АПО or АПОХР.)
- a complete set of objectives for polarisation (marked П)
- a whole set of objectives with high magnifications only, for example to analyse the ornamentation of the cell wall (50x / 63x / 80x / 100x)
- a set for dark field work (objectives with an iris diaphragm inside)
- a set of objectives for work without a cover glass, even at high magnifications (marked Д=0)
- a set of objectives for fluorescence (marked Л)
This way, with only one microscope, we can use it for different purposes and do not have to screw all the objectives in and out one by one by hand every time.
Several different names are in use for this part. They all mean the same thing, among them:
- revolving nosepiece
- objective turret
- objective nosepiece
- nosepiece turret
- objective changer
In the last photo in the gallery you will see a photo of the LOMO Biolam R-1 microscope, with an arrow showing which part is meant and where it is located on the microscope. This allows it to be identified without any doubt.
A reminder: this is a nosepiece with some of its parts painted grey. LOMO also made such nosepieces in black (for the older microscopes, for example MBI-1, MBP-3, MBB-1A - that is, before the Biolam era) and in white (for the newer Biolam models after the collapse of the USSR, and for the newest ones sold under the Bresser brand). They are all mechanically identical and compatible, so for example a black nosepiece from a Lomo MBB-1A or MBP-3 can be used on a Lomo Biolam and the other way round - grey or white nosepieces from new Lomo Biolam microscopes can be fitted to black Lomo MBB-1A microscopes and even to the oldest, hammered-silver MBI-1.
ЛОМО marked the series in Cyrillic letters, so the letter engraved on the microscope does not always mean what it seems to mean at first glance: Д stands for the Latin D, but the Russian C is read as S and the Russian P as R.
The same models in the notation used on Western markets:
- Lomo Biolam D-1 / D-2 / D-3
- Lomo Biolam S-1 / S-2 / S-3
- Lomo Biolam R-1 / R-2 / R-3 / R-4 / R-5 / R-6 / R-7
- Lomo Biolam D-11 / D-12 / D-13
- Lomo Biolam S-11 / S-12 / S-13
- Lomo Biolam R-11 / R-12 / R-13 / R-14 / R-15 / R-16 / R-17

What is this part needed for?
- if you have a LOMO microscope without a nosepiece (on the second-hand market microscopes without a nosepiece turn up often, because someone who wants the objectives pulls out and takes the whole nosepiece)
- if you want to have an additional nosepiece (the reasons are listed in the description)
- if the nosepiece in your microscope has been damaged
