MICROSCOPE MANUFACTURER
  • Hensoldt Wetzlar - M. Hensoldt & Söhne Optische Werke AG Wetzlar, Germany

Over the years, every microscope manufacturer – including Hensoldt Wetzlar – has used different logos. Sometimes the changes involved only the typeface, while in other cases the shape of the logo was modified or a written company name was replaced with a graphical symbol. For example, PZO has at various times used the plain text "PZO", a logo containing this inscription, as well as variants such as "PZO Poland" and "PZO Warszawa". There have also been cases where a microscope manufacturer changed its name (for example, Leitz becoming Leica) or merged with another company. In such situations the logo often changed completely or incorporated the names of both companies, as in the case of Zeiss-Winkel. It is also worth remembering that some manufacturers sold their microscopes under different brand names in different countries. For example, Zeiss West marketed certain microscopes under the Opton brand, even though they were produced by the same manufacturer. Many companies also manufactured microscopes for OEM customers, meaning that identical microscopes were sold under another company’s name and logo. One example is Schul-Knickmann, which sold microscopes manufactured by Hertel & Reuss under its own brand.
For this reason, I try to collect and document different versions of manufacturer names and logos that can be found on microscopes, objectives, eyepieces and other microscope components. This requires a considerable amount of research and documentation work, so the gallery will continue to grow over time.
