Leitz Wild MPS 52 microscope camera adapter trinocular photo tube

The name of this microscope part.

Leitz Wild MPS 52 microscope camera adapter trinocular photo tube

Description of this part for the microscope.

Wild MPS 52 microscope camera system photo tube.

Modular photomicrography tube consisting of:
- adapter for Polaroid film backs: Wild Heerbrugg 0. ...

8x
- lens mount marked: 0.8x 419610 (font characteristic for the Wild company. Number 419610 is the manufacturer catalog number)
- field widening lens: 0.8x MPS 195182 (number 195182 is the catalog number of this lens)
- Wild Leitz / Wild MPS 52 photo tube (Heerbrugg Switzerland) with connector for the MPS 46 control console (important - the console is not included)

The mounting diameter on the microscope side is 40 mm.

This tube is currently commonly used for connecting digital cameras or photographic cameras to microscopes with a trinocular head. There is a lot of information about this online as well as DIY step-by-step guides on internet forums. It allows taking microscope photographs and, after minor modifications, it can also be used for macrophotography https://www.mikroskopia.de/serv-mps52-en.html.

Please note that the MPS 52 was sold during a period of ownership and manufacturer name changes. Leitz Wetzlar changed its name to "Leica", and Leica later acquired Wild Heerbrugg. Because of this, the following names are used interchangeably for the entire MPS 52 system:
- Wild MPS 52
- Leitz MPS 52
- Leica MPS 52
This is also visible on the element shown in the photographs:
- the adapter for Polaroid film backs is marked as Wild Heerbrugg
- while the tube itself carries the "Wild Leitz" logo

Leitz Wetzlar EF 100/1.25 OEL 160/0.17 PHACO 3 microscope phase contrast objective 100x

The name of this microscope part.

Leitz Wetzlar EF 100/1.25 OEL 160/0.17 PHACO 3 microscope phase contrast objective 100x

Description of this part for the microscope.

Microscope objective manufactured by Leitz Wetzlar with 100x magnification, designed for brightfield and phase contrast work.

Manufacturer: Leitz ...

Wetzlar
Model: 160/0,17 EF 100/1.25 OEL PHACO 3
Magnification: 100x
Correction: semi-plan achromat
Numerical aperture: 1.25
Tube length: 160 mm
Focal length: 45 mm
Cover glass: yes, 0.17 mm
Immersion: yes, oil
Thread: RMS
Specimen protection: yes - spring-loaded
Info: PHACO 3 = phase contrast

Some important information about this objective:
- the designation "EF" means "Extended Field" - this is a semi-plan achromatic objective with an 18 mm field of view, which should be taken into account when selecting suitable eyepieces
- the semi-plan achromatic correction is "almost flat" - it is no longer an achromat, but not yet a plan achromat
- this objective can be used in brightfield, but phase contrast operation requires a compatible phase contrast condenser or a slide (slider) with a phase ring diaphragm
- the designation PHACO 3 means that for phase contrast operation a phase contrast condenser set to ring "3" should be used (the equivalent setting used by Zeiss is called "Ph3")
- this objective can be used with microscopes designed for objectives with a 170 mm tube length, but in such a case the optical path must be extended by 10 mm - most commonly by pulling the eyepieces out of the tubes by 10 mm

This objective can be used with any microscope from any manufacturer together with a compatible phase contrast condenser. Naturally, the microscope must be compatible, i.e. it must support RMS objectives, TL=160 mm and FL=45 mm - or have adapters that make such adaptation possible (for example thread adapters).
