Interesting fact:
This adapter fits the Carl Zeiss Jena Polmi-A microscope. This microscope is a construction designed for work with objectives with RMS thread and a tube length of 160 mm, but after using this adapter it is possible to use objectives with M19 thread corrected for infinity. Such tests were performed by Mr. Wojciech Plonka and he found that it works, but in this case the objectives produce stronger magnification than nominal (link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/254539018060854/?multi_permalinks=1857582481089825).

Note regarding the manufacturer's name: Carl Zeiss West Germany marketed its OPMI surgical microscopes (and their accessories) under the following names:
- Zeiss OPMI
- Opton OPMI
These are the same microscopes and the same components.
When the name "Opton" appears, it is printed on the label, while the word "Zeiss" underneath has often been washed off, worn away or scraped off at the factory. The reason for the deliberate removal of the "Zeiss" name and the use of the "Opton" name was an agreement with Carl Zeiss Jena, which operated in the former Eastern Bloc (communist bloc), to avoid using the name "Zeiss" on export products.

This camera mount was removed from a Carl Zeiss ICM 405 microscope, but it fits any microscope with a compatible mounting interface. It originally had an analog Zeiss M35 camera mounted in it.

The photos show the dimensions and exact appearance of this component from multiple angles. Additionally, the last photo shows the Zeiss ICM 405 microscope with an arrow indicating where this component is located on the microscope. This allows the component to be accurately identified and located.

The Carl Zeiss ICM 405 inverted microscope is an advanced version of the Carl Zeiss IM 35 inverted microscope. The main differences between the ICM 405 and the IM 35 are the ICM 405's more advanced microphotography capabilities.

However, many users treat these two models as essentially the same microscope and use the name "Zeiss IM 35" for both, sometimes only specifying that it is a "Zeiss IM 35 with photo output".

This photo tube was removed from a Carl Zeiss ICM 405 microscope. However, it is a completely universal light-splitting tube, so with suitable DIY mounts it can be used in practically any microscope or other optical device (astronomical telescope, binoculars, spotting scope, spectrophotometer, etc.). The universal interface for connecting an image-recording device (a straight tube with a 35 mm inner diameter) allows, among other things, the use of digital cameras or DSLR cameras (with suitable adapters). Since the light beam is split, this output can be used for "simul-focal live" observation, meaning that in real time the same image can be seen simultaneously through the microscope eyepieces and by the camera.

- the output in the trinocular tubes of the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed, Jenaval, Jenalumar, Jenatech, Jenavert, Jenapol microscopes
- the LOMO TRN-1 heads (ЛОМО ТРН-1), found in the LOMO Polam microscopes
- some versions of the intermediate photo tubes for the Carl Zeiss Jena Mikroval series microscopes (others require a tube screwed onto a thread)

This is not a "tube for one specific microscope model". A trinocular head can be mounted not only on the microscope it was sold with - it is therefore correct to assume that this is a universal tube, with a 41 mm dovetail on one side and a 23.2 mm barrel on the other.

This is the version with adjustable tube length. A scale from 140 to 200 mm is engraved on the extendable barrel, with a reference line and intermediate divisions, and the setting is locked with a knurled ring. This gives two things at once. First, a continuous change of the image scale - the longer the tube, the larger the image falling on the sensor or the film, so the framing can be adjusted without changing the objective. Second, and more importantly, the ability to work with objectives computed for different optical tube lengths: 160, 170, 180, 190 and 200 mm. Carl Zeiss Jena and LOMO objectives are computed for 160 mm, Leitz Wetzlar for 170 mm, some objectives of metallurgical and measuring microscopes for 190 or 200 mm - here you simply set the barrel to the right value and the objective works under its design conditions, instead of delivering an image with residual aberration.

Since the adapter has an empty barrel with an internal diameter of 23.2 mm on the output side, a projection eyepiece of that diameter can be placed in it, or a so-called "USB eyepiece", that is a digital microscope camera. Adapters between the 23.2 mm barrel and the M42 thread are also widely available, and from the M42 thread you can move on to any other mount: Nikon, Canon, Sony and others.

This is a black tube with an upper element (barrel) 55 mm long. Here (https://www.microscopeparts.eu/gallery/91057) you can see a functionally identical adapter, but grey and with an upper barrel only 25 mm long.

Black adapters of this kind come from the era of the Carl Zeiss Jena L stands (models Carl Zeiss Jena Lg, Lumipan, Ng, Nf or Nu). The grey ones are newer, from the era of the Mikroval series (models Carl Zeiss Jena Laboval, Eduval, Ergaval or Amplival and Docuval).

The mounting fit is of course identical, so both can be used interchangeably.
