The reason for the deliberate removal of the "Zeiss" name and the use of the "Opton" name was an agreement with Carl Zeiss Jena, which operated in the former Eastern Bloc (communist bloc), to avoid using the name "Zeiss" on export products.

improves camera sensor coverage and helps eliminate vignetting when using a photographic camera (e.g. a DSLR) or a digital camera connected to a Zeiss (Opton) OPMI surgical microscope via a photo adapter.
Mechanically, this objective is installed between the photo adapter and the camera. It also incorporates a holder for an additional 30 mm filter positioned in the optical path (for example, a polarizing filter, neutral-density filter or colour filter).
