This is a so-called "short objective", with a parfocal length of 37 mm. It is particularly common to mount this objective on an 8 mm extension, which makes it possible to use the objective in microscopes requiring objectives with a parfocal length of 45 mm. Both professional adapters with protective optics and metal adapters, as well as popular DIY solutions made with a 3D printer, work well for this purpose. Like a large proportion of microscope objectives manufactured in Germany in the 1960s and 1970s, this objective has a parfocal length of 37 mm and a tube length of 170 mm. It is not certain that this objective will match that condenser, because the annular stop there is marked 45x, while the objective offered here is 40x. Only the Steindorff Berlin turret condenser (see here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/136833493390496/posts/1746808269059669/) has a 40x annular stop, and this objective is compatible with it. I am not aware of Steindorff Berlin "Ph" objectives working with phase contrast condensers from other manufacturers. Please note: "not aware" does not mean they do not fit - but it is safer to assume they do not. In other words, you should assume that this objective will form a working set only with a Steindorff Berlin phase contrast condenser. The microscope gallery on the steindorff-berlin.de website (https://steindorff-berlin.de/Instruments/Gallery/gallery.html) shows a microscope with serial number 54541, which suggests that objectives of this type were in use in the first half of the 1950s. The author of that same site explains here that from the 1950s onwards the year of manufacture should be read in this way: https://steindorff-berlin.de/Instruments/Microscopes/microscopes.html This objective is finished in black and white styling. A decade earlier Steindorff still used brass objectives or ones in a gold and silver finish. On the objective shown here the company name appears as "Steindorff & Co̱", with the word "Berlin" on the second line; by the early 1960s, however, the objectives were entirely silver and carried the inscription "Steindorff Berlin" inside a border serving as the logo.
