Olympus CHK microscope light collector lens with frosted diffuser and filter holder

The name of this microscope part.

Olympus CHK microscope light collector lens with frosted diffuser and filter holder

Description of this part for the microscope.

Light collector lens together with a frosted diffuser for the Olympus CHK microscope. The lens is mounted in a plastic holder which also serves as the filter holder. ...

Mechanically, this lens assembly is located inside the microscope base beneath the condenser. It is secured from below (inside the microscope base) with two screws. The lamp is located inside the microscope base directly beneath this light collector.

This component performs several functions:
- it collimates the light beam
- thanks to the built-in frosted diffuser, it homogenizes the light so that there are no bright or coloured hot spots caused by the lamp filament
- it also serves as the holder for round filters

The last photograph in the gallery shows the complete Olympus CHK microscope. An arrow indicates exactly which component is being offered and where it is located inside the microscope, making identification straightforward.

Olympus CHK / CH-2 microscope mechanical stage attachment | Olympus CH XY cross specimen holder

The name of this microscope part.

Olympus CHK / CH-2 microscope mechanical stage attachment | Olympus CH XY cross specimen holder

Description of this part for the microscope.

XY mechanical stage attachment for Olympus CH series microscopes. It is used for precise movement of the microscope slide across the microscope stage.

Simpler ...

Olympus CHK / CH / CH-2 microscope models were supplied with a square stage that does not include an integrated XY mechanical stage for precise specimen movement. Such a mechanism is a separate (optional) accessory mounted to the side of the stage, and this is exactly the accessory shown and offered here.

Basic information:
Item: XY mechanical stage attachment for microscope stage
Manufacturer: Olympus
Manufacturer's descriptive name: Fixed type mechanical stage with right downward coaxial knob for plane stage fixed
For microscope: Olympus CHK
Mounting method: attached to the side of the stage with two screws
Required stage thickness: from 10 mm to 12 mm

Important compatibility information:
Originally, this mechanical stage attachment was used on the Olympus CHK microscope. I have personally also installed it on Olympus CH and Olympus CH-2 microscopes, and it is fully compatible with both models.

If CH and CH-2 microscopes were originally supplied with an XY mechanical stage, they used the Olympus CH-MVR attachment, but this CHK version fits as well.

In addition, this XY mechanism is compatible with other microscopes provided that the stage thickness is between 10 mm and 12 mm. I have personally verified compatibility with the stages of the following microscopes:
- Carl Zeiss Jena Eduval
- Carl Zeiss Jena Laboval-2
- Motic SFC100

The last photographs in the gallery show the complete Olympus CHK microscope. An arrow indicates exactly which component is being offered and where it is located within the microscope. The final photograph also shows an Olympus CH-2 microscope fitted with this XY mechanical stage attachment.

In addition, the video available in the video gallery shows this stage from various angles and demonstrates the movement of all mechanical parts.

At magnifications above 400×, manually moving the microscope slide becomes very difficult. This is exactly why XY mechanical stage attachments are used, allowing the specimen to be moved with great precision at magnifications such as 600× or 1000× using oil immersion.

Olympus CHK microscope base sheet metal cover with bulb heat sink

The name of this microscope part.

Olympus CHK microscope base sheet metal cover with bulb heat sink

Description of this part for the microscope.

Sheet metal base cover for the Olympus CHK microscope. The retaining screw for mounting this cover to the microscope base is also included.

This cover performs ...

several functions:
- it protects the electrical components built into the microscope base
- it protects the bulb located inside the microscope base
- it acts as a heat sink, dissipating the heat generated by the bulb

The last photograph in the gallery shows the complete Olympus CHK microscope. An arrow indicates exactly which component this is and where it is located, making it easy to identify correctly.

A large proportion of Olympus CHK microscopes available on the second-hand market are missing this cover. During many years of use, this sheet metal cover had to be removed whenever the bulb was replaced, and it was often never reinstalled afterwards.

Owners solve this problem in various ways, often using thick cardboard or a plastic cover. However, only a metal cover also performs the function of a heat sink.
