Description
Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival / Ergaval microscope - single blades for field diaphragm | iris diaphragm bladesSeparate, individual blades of the field diaphragm (iris diaphragm) located in the microscope base (stand foot) of the Carl Zeiss Jena Ergaval / Amplival microscope. This diaphragm is necessary to set illumination according to the Koehler system.
This element is used in a diaphragm installed in various Carl Zeiss Jena microscope models built on the Amplival stand:
- Amplival
- Amplival Interphako
- Amplival Pol
- Vertival
- Peraval
- Fluoval
- Docuval
The field diaphragm located in the microscope base is part of the transmitted light path - it is not a diaphragm for EPI (reflected) illumination. However, it is VERY LIKELY that individual blades may also fit reflected light diaphragms and other diaphragms (e.g. aperture diaphragms) in Carl Zeiss Jena microscopes and condensers.
Damage to iris diaphragm blades is one of the more common failures in Carl Zeiss Jena microscopes. Most often this occurs when:
- the lubricant in the diaphragm opening / closing mechanism dries out and the user tries to move it by force
- a foreign object gets between the blades (e.g. a glass fragment from a chipped microscope slide)
- the diaphragm is closed too quickly or opened too far
In the event of an iris diaphragm failure, it is possible to:
- replace the entire element (condenser or diaphragm module)
- replace only the diaphragm
- repair the diaphragm by replacing the damaged blades
