Dovetail rail used to mount the body of a Carl Zeiss Jena Citoval-2 / Technival-2 stereo microscope to a table stand.

The function of this microscope part is to attach the microscope to the stand. In the Carl Zeiss Jena Citoval-2 microscope user manual ([[ LINK ]], page 4), the stand component to which this rail is fitted is identified as part number 35.

This rail is often chipped or broken because it is made of a relatively brittle material, while the screw used to clamp it to the stand is made of steel (this can be clearly seen in the following photo: [[ LINK ]]). An impact or even excessive tightening of this screw may cause this mounting rail to chip or break.

This microscope part can help solve the following problems encountered when using a Carl Zeiss Jena Citoval-2 or Technival-2 microscope:

  • if you own a microscope that was previously used without its stand or on a custom boom arm and no longer has this mounting rail
