Description
Carl Zeiss Jena Ergaval / Amplival microscope coarse and fine focus split taper-lock bushingSplit taper-lock bushing (alternative name: expansion and clamping ring) - a service component of the coarse focus and fine focus mechanism responsible for vertical movement in the microscope.
As far as I know, the same mechanism is used in the following Carl Zeiss Jena microscopes:
- Ergaval
- Amplival
- Fluoval
- Vertival
- Epival
- Docuval
- Metaval
- Peraval
This component acts as a resistance regulator and functions as a friction brake. Tightening the outer element compresses the tapered section of the bushing, causing the slotted bushing to contract at the slit. This increases friction on the shaft and makes the entire mechanism move with greater resistance.
Note - in some descriptions available on the Internet, this component is referred to as a "piece of wood".
