This cassette serves as a specimen holder with provision for microscope slides. It allows quick insertion and replacement of slides without the use of an XY mechanical stage.
Several different specimen holding systems are found in Carl Zeiss Jena microscopes. The slide cassette system is one of them and represents an alternative to traditional designs using a mechanical stage and slide-retaining clips.
