Description
Carl Zeiss Jena mechanical XY cross mechanism for microscope stage | vintage specimen holderThis is a relatively old (so-called vintage) XY cross stage attachment, which can be identified by the absence of a spring holder and by the typeface used on the millimeter scale.
The XY cross mechanism is used for precise movement of the specimen slide on the microscope stage.
Basic versions of Carl Zeiss Jena microscopes are equipped with simple stages with clips that hold the specimen. For this reason, at magnifications above 400x, manual movement of the specimen slide becomes very difficult. This is exactly the purpose of cross stage attachments - to allow very precise movement of the specimen, for example at higher magnifications.
This is not a cheap plastic cross stage attachment - it is a solidly built Carl Zeiss Jena construction, highly sought after on the used microscope market.
Note - if the mounting pin spacing matches, this cross mechanism can be installed on microscope stages of virtually any manufacturer.
Note - Carl Zeiss Jena produced cross mechanisms both with fixed specimen clips and with a spring-loaded clip. The version offered here has fixed clips without a spring.
