Description
Leitz Wetzlar 512821/20 microscope interpupillary adjustment mechanism for binocular headInternal interpupillary distance adjustment mechanism for the Leitz Wetzlar 512821/20 microscope binocular head and similar heads.
The set offered here consists of:
- two brass carrier plates, each with a round seat for the eyepiece tube (it is to these plates that the tubes [[ LINK ]] are screwed)
- a central scissor lever made of plastic, with its fixing screw
- two pressure springs (one for each brass plate)
Turning the central lever moves both brass plates outwards symmetrically. It is exactly this constant work of the plastic central lever against the brass plates that wears the plastic lever out - and then it has to be replaced.
This mechanism was removed from the Leitz Wetzlar binocular head P/N 512821/20 (also written 512 821) - but exactly the same one is used in other models of binocular and trinocular heads as well.
The same front panel design is found in, among others, the Leitz 512 923/20 and Leitz 512 815 trinocular heads - this interpupillary mechanism will most likely fit those too.
From the outside this mechanism is covered by plastic covers - one on the right ([[ LINK ]]) and a different one on the left ([[ LINK ]]). These plastic covers carry a printed scale on which the interpupillary distance is read.
Before you decide to use this mechanism in a Leitz Wetzlar head other than model 512 821/20, first compare the exact dimensions (the photos show a millimetre scale), and if you have any doubts, ask in internet groups and forums.
This is a service part for a microscope head - not for a specific microscope model. Such a head can be mounted on many Leitz Wetzlar microscope models (and even on microscopes from other makers), so no list of microscopes this mechanism fits can be given - it fits the head, and the user mounts the head wherever he wants.
In the "compatibility" section I list a few example Leitz Wetzlar microscope models that turn up on the second-hand market complete with the head this mechanism comes from - but this is definitely not a complete list. They include:
- Leitz Wetzlar Dialux 20 / Dialux 22 EB
- Leitz Wetzlar Laborlux K / Laborlux S
- Leitz Wetzlar Diaplan
On the last photos in the gallery you can see the Leitz Wetzlar 512821/20 binocular head, and with arrows I try to show which part this is and where it sits in the head.
