Nikon SMZ-10 stereo microscope cover for left erecting prism
Main Photo
Description
Nikon SMZ-10 stereo microscope cover for left erecting prismCover of the left erecting prism from the head of the Nikon SMZ-10 stereo microscope.
This is the part of the head the user grips to change the interpupillary distance. It protects access to the left erecting prism and at the same time the eyepiece tube passes through it - part of the tube sits under this cover, part of it sits outside.
The manufacturer calls this element a "prism box".
The last photos in the gallery have an arrow marking which element this is and where it sits in the head of the stereo microscope. This allows unambiguous identification.
Replacing this prism lid in the stereo head of the Nikon SMZ-10 microscope may turn out to be necessary when the cover has mechanical damage, e.g. deep scratches that cannot be painted over, cracks, chips or flaking. This lid is not made of flexible sheet metal - here it is unfortunately a brittle casting.
