Inside the microscope base there are two light-directing mirrors operated by control knobs located on the top of the base housing. These controls are marked "EPI" and "MIX". Reichert Neozet microscopes, these rails serve only a decorative purpose.

However, the Reichert Zetopan microscope was also available in a version equipped for fluorescence illumination. The large size of the illumination unit used (for example the Binolux 3 model), which was mounted at the rear of the microscope, made it necessary to raise the entire microscope. For this purpose, Reichert Austria offered a special raising base (referred to by the manufacturer as the "sub-base", catalogue number 9 18 87 01). This raising base was equipped with retaining clips that attached to the microscope base, and those clips engaged precisely with the chrome-plated side rails presented here.

The particular rails presented here were removed from a Reichert Zetopan microscope. To the best of my knowledge, they are also compatible with the Reichert Neozet model.

Although two identical rails are mounted on the microscope base, I offer each rail separately. Very often only one rail breaks, so the user needs to replace only a single one. Please note that the chrome plating on the rails presented here is incomplete in places due to the age of these components.

to manufacture such a protective cover for the base of a Reichert Zetopan microscope themselves, here are its dimensions:

The base of the Reichert Austria Zetopan microscope contains the optical light path, and from time to time this area requires maintenance, especially cleaning. Since Reichert Zetopan microscopes are now 50-60 years old, it is not uncommon to encounter examples where this cover has been lost over the years.

Without this protective cover, contaminants can enter the optical light path and reach the mirror prism of either the transmitted-light or reflected-light illumination system, which may result in reduced image quality.

This is the intermediate tube, forming the main optical module of the microscope. It is mounted onto the microscope stand, while the binocular viewing head is then attached to the top of this intermediate tube. The module incorporates the following components:
- a third optical path (photo port), which is why this module is sometimes referred to as a trinocular unit
- a Bertrand lens (indicating that this is the newer version of this intermediate tube), with a control knob for inserting the lens into the optical path
- a dovetail mount for the objective nosepiece together with a clamping screw for securing the nosepiece
- slots for sliding inserts, including a polarizing analyzer

In addition, the entire module rotates smoothly. Because of its complex mechanical and optical design, it is a component in which individual internal parts may occasionally become damaged.

Over the years, Reichert manufactured Zetopan microscopes in three different colours: black, silver and cream. The intermediate tube offered here is the silver version. The different versions differ only in colour and can be exchanged between Reichert Zetopan microscopes. This means that this silver intermediate tube can be fitted to a black Zetopan microscope, although the colour combination may not be aesthetically pleasing.

This component is attached to the microscope body by means of a clamping screw (a so-called "quick-release clamp"), which locks onto the vertical dovetail guide of the microscope body. The microscope stage itself is then bolted to the top of this holder. In other words, the stage is permanently attached to the holder, while the complete holder-and-stage assembly can be removed from the microscope within seconds.

This allows users who own several microscope stages (for example a standard XY stage, a circular polarizing stage or a sliding stage for reflected-light EPI observation) to mount each stage permanently on its own holder and quickly interchange complete stage assemblies on the same microscope.

When new Reichert Austria Zetopan microscopes were purchased with additional equipment (phase contrast or fluorescence), the manufacturer often supplied the microscope from the factory with two or three nosepieces (for example a dedicated nosepiece fitted with phase contrast objectives) - even 6-position versions!

The objective positions originally installed in each thread are engraved on the nosepiece presented here: 4 / 10 / 40 / 63. This is only a recommendation and any objectives may be screwed into these positions.

Important: the visually very similar black Reichert Neozet microscope uses a DIFFERENT objective nosepiece mounting system. The nosepiece from the Reichert Zetopan microscope is not compatible with the Reichert Neozet microscope.

Why is this the microscope part that every user should own in several examples?

Reichert Zetopan microscopes - both the older black models, the silver models and the latest cream-colored models - feature an interchangeable objective nosepiece. This is an excellent solution that allows complete sets of objectives to be owned, used and exchanged very quickly.

For example, you may have separate nosepieces already fitted with objectives:
- a set of low magnification objectives for observing macro objects with side illumination and without a cover glass (for example 2.5x / 3.2x / 5x / 8x)
- a complete set of objectives for phase contrast
- even different sets of objectives for different phase contrast techniques (positive, anoptral, amplitude, Zernike)
- a set of objectives for water immersion work, for example good and inexpensive Lomo objectives
- a set of objectives that all operate with oil immersion, for example Leitz Wetzlar 10x Oil / 25x Oil / 40x Oil
- a complete set of apochromatic objectives for obtaining better color reproduction
- a set of "P / Pol" objectives for polarization
- a complete set of objectives with only high magnifications, for example for analysis of cell wall ornamentation (50x / 63x / 80x / 100x)
- a set for dark field microscopy (objectives with an iris diaphragm inside)

Thanks to this, having only one microscope, we can use it for many different purposes without having to screw in and unscrew all objectives manually one by one every time.

Interestingly, regardless of the country (!) users often use English terms when referring to an objective nosepiece. The most common are:
- revolver
- objective nosepiece
- objective turret
- objective carousell

Therefore, the lamp socket presented here is also compatible with these microscopes - it is a repair part for the illuminator rather than for a specific microscope.

Older Reichert Zetopan microscope models were equipped with a 6V 30W illuminator, while newer models used the Lux-US illuminator with a 12V 100W halogen lamp. Currently (as of 2026), most amateur microscope users believe that this illuminator should be converted to an LED light source, while professional users still prefer a halogen bulb as a light source because of its full colour spectrum.
However, in both cases this lampenhaus is essential and must be repaired if damaged. Since it protrudes beyond the outline of the microscope (it is attached to the rear of the microscope base), it is exposed to mechanical damage.

The lamp socket is particularly sought after by users who want to convert the illuminator to a different light source, for example LED. For this purpose, the plug-in assembly usually needs to be modified irreversibly - and it is best to do this using a "spare" lamp socket rather than "destroying" the original one.

Note - this lamp socket does not include the plastic end cap. It is not essential for operation - however, I would like to point this out.

After Leica acquired Reichert-Jung, both companies sold technically identical products for a certain period under their own brands while maintaining separate model names. All service and spare parts are identical for both devices.

This knife holder is therefore compatible with:

However, it is highly likely that it also fits other models with the same or similar design, because knives are compatible across many models and a well-designed knife holder was often used in multiple subsequent models.
