Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival / Ergaval microscope - single blades for field diaphragm | iris diaphragm blades

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival / Ergaval microscope - single blades for field diaphragm | iris diaphragm blades

Description of this part for the microscope.

Separate, individual blades of the field diaphragm (iris diaphragm) located in the microscope base (stand foot) of the Carl Zeiss Jena Ergaval / Amplival microscope. ...

This diaphragm is necessary to set illumination according to the Koehler system.

This element is used in a diaphragm installed in various Carl Zeiss Jena microscope models built on the Amplival stand:
- Amplival
- Amplival Interphako
- Amplival Pol
- Vertival
- Peraval
- Fluoval
- Docuval

The field diaphragm located in the microscope base is part of the transmitted light path - it is not a diaphragm for EPI (reflected) illumination. However, it is VERY LIKELY that individual blades may also fit reflected light diaphragms and other diaphragms (e.g. aperture diaphragms) in Carl Zeiss Jena microscopes and condensers.

Damage to iris diaphragm blades is one of the more common failures in Carl Zeiss Jena microscopes. Most often this occurs when:
- the lubricant in the diaphragm opening / closing mechanism dries out and the user tries to move it by force
- a foreign object gets between the blades (e.g. a glass fragment from a chipped microscope slide)
- the diaphragm is closed too quickly or opened too far

In the event of an iris diaphragm failure, it is possible to:
- replace the entire element (condenser or diaphragm module)
- replace only the diaphragm
- repair the diaphragm by replacing the damaged blades

Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival - microscope arm holding screw

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival - microscope arm holding screw

Description of this part for the microscope.

This is a module used to secure the microscope arm of the Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival to the stand.

The module consists of two elements:
- a cast part reinforcing ...

the microscope arm
- and a mounting screw

The mounting screw itself - as a separate component - fits practically most Carl Zeiss Jena microscopes based on the Amplival system:
- Amplival
- Amplival Interphako
- Amplival Pol
- Vertival
- Peraval
- Fluoval
- Docuval

Carl Zeiss Jena developed a complete modular microscope system based on connections made with this type of screw. Thanks to this design, the screw as a service part is also compatible with most accessories, modules and components that can be mounted to the microscope, including:
- EPI arms
- Parktaric Zoom Tube module
- Interphako heads

Important - carefully check the shape and dimensions of the screw to make sure it is the size you need. For example, the modular design of the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed microscope is based on mounting screws of a different shape and size (search for it in this database for comparison).

Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival / Ergaval microscope trinocular photo tube | Lomo Biolam compatible trino

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival / Ergaval microscope trinocular photo tube | Lomo Biolam compatible trino head

Description of this part for the microscope.

Trinohead (trinocular / phototube) for Carl Zeiss Jena Mikroval series microscopes. It allows a photographic camera or imaging camera to be connected to the microscope ...

for taking microscope photographs or recording microscope videos. This is a gray photographic adapter.

Basic technical parameters:
- mounting connection to microscope stand: 41 mm dovetail
- output connection type on the photo port: 49 mm internal thread
- connection for binocular head mounting: Jena standard 41 mm dovetail
- magnification directed to the binocular head: 1.6x
- magnification on the photo output: none (that is 1.0x)

Because this photo head has a 49 mm threaded output, virtually any device, camera, adapter, tube or other accessory can be connected after using an appropriate 49 mm thread adapter. Direct projection technique may be used (because there is no additional optics inside), or any projection eyepieces may be installed in the optical path.

This photographic attachment is intended mainly (but not exclusively) for the following microscope models:
- Carl Zeiss Jena Eduval
- Carl Zeiss Jena Laboval
- Carl Zeiss Jena Ergaval
- Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival
- Carl Zeiss Jena Vertival
- Carl Zeiss Jena Epival
- Carl Zeiss Jena Metaval
- Carl Zeiss Jena Telaval
- Carl Zeiss Jena Pictoval
- Carl Zeiss Jena Epignost

The list above contains Mikroval series microscopes with gray housings - just like the tube shown and offered here. However, it also works with older black Carl Zeiss Jena microscopes:
- Carl Zeiss Jena L-Stativ (models Lg, Lu and Lr)
- Carl Zeiss Jena Lumipan
- Carl Zeiss Jena Ng
- Carl Zeiss Jena Nf (and NfPk)

Please note that microscopes from other manufacturers also use the 41 / 41.5 mm dovetail connection standard. Because of this, this photographic head can also be used with microscopes made by:
- Lomo (for example Lomo Biolam)
- Meopta
- IOR
- selected Reichert microscopes (for example Reichert Neozet)
- Will Wetzlar
- Hund Wetzlar
- Leitz Wetzlar

This Carl Zeiss Jena tube is also very often used with microscopes having a larger head mounting diameter. In such cases users apply additional spacer or thickening rings. Because of this, this photo adapter also fits microscopes from manufacturers such as:
- PZO (for example the PZO Biolar model with 43 mm connection)
- Olympus (for example the Olympus CH model with 42 mm connection)

The element that allows a photographic camera or imaging camera to be connected to Carl Zeiss Jena Mikroval series microscopes may be referred to by different names. Commonly used names include:
- trino head
- trinocular head
- photo head
- photographic head
- photo attachment
- photographic attachment
- photo adapter
- photographic adapter
- photo tube
- photographic tube
- phototube
- photographic angle tube
- and various combinations of the words head, attachment, adapter or tube with terms such as photo, photographic, for camera and similar

Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival / Vertival microscope transmitted light lamp cover plug

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival / Vertival microscope transmitted light lamp cover plug

Description of this part for the microscope.

Blanking plug that is screwed in instead of the transmitted light illuminator in the microscope base (stand base) of Carl Zeiss Jena Ergaval / Amplival microscopes and ...

related models.

This element is used when the microscope does not have a transmitted light illuminator with a lamp holder installed in the rear part of the base. In such a case, so that there is no open hole and no contamination can enter the inside of the microscope, this opening can be closed with this blanking plug.
When can such a situation occur that the microscope does not have a transmitted light illuminator? Most often when the microscope is intended for reflected light work only and simply does not have any DIA illuminator (transmitted light illuminator).

This element fits the following microscopes:
- Carl Zeiss Jena Ergaval
- Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival
- Carl Zeiss Jena Epival
- Carl Zeiss Jena Vertival
- Carl Zeiss Jena Interphako
- Carl Zeiss Jena Fluoval

The photo gallery contains detailed photos of this element from different sides, while the video (in the video gallery) shows exactly how this blanking plug is used and where it is mounted.

Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival / Vertival microscope light collector cover plug

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival / Vertival microscope light collector cover plug

Description of this part for the microscope.

Blanking plug that is screwed into the place of the illumination collector located in the microscope base (stand base) of Carl Zeiss Jena Ergaval / Amplival microscopes ...

and related models.

This element is used when transmitted light is temporarily not needed. The illuminator itself does not need to be removed - instead, the light output should simply be completely blocked, and this light output is the collector lens itself. This collector lens is located inside the microscope base, above the angle mirror and below the condenser.

When can there be a need to completely block transmitted light? Most often when:
- a microscope with DIA illumination (transmitted light) and EPI illumination (reflected light) is available, but temporarily only reflected light operation is needed
- a microscope previously working with transmitted light (for example Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival) is being converted into a microscope intended to work permanently only with reflected light (for example converting an Amplival into a Vertival)
- for example a Fluoval microscope is used and it is undesirable that "the lower light is visible"

This element fits the following microscopes:
- Carl Zeiss Jena Ergaval
- Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival
- Carl Zeiss Jena Epival
- Carl Zeiss Jena Vertival
- Carl Zeiss Jena Interphako
- Carl Zeiss Jena Fluoval
- Carl Zeiss Jena Docuval

Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival / Vertival simple microscope arm

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival / Vertival simple microscope arm

Description of this part for the microscope.

Upper microscope arm of Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival. This element functions as a horizontal arm, on the end of which the microscope head is mounted from above, ...

and the nosepiece is mounted from underneath.

Based on the Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival microscope, whose modular design allows for various configurations, several microscope models were created:
- Vertival
- Epival
- Amplival Interphako
- Amplival Pol
- Fluoval
and these microscopes differ from each other, among other things, by different arms. The arm from the Amplival model has the simplest construction.

By owning different arms and one microscope - you can swap them according to your needs and use different functionalities, as if you had two microscope models.

This element consists of the following components:
- fixing screw securing the arm to the microscope body
- holder enabling the mounting of components with a 41 mm mounting diameter (e.g. binocular head)
- fixing screw securing this component (e.g. head). This element is very often damaged.
- guides (slides) enabling the attachment of an interchangeable nosepiece

A device with a matching mounting diameter that is placed on the arm from above can be, for example:
- head with a built-in inclined tube
- intermediate tube (German: Zwischentubus)
- magnification changer (Optovar)
- EPI reflected light illuminator
- polarization analyzer module
- and others, because as mentioned above, the Amplival class microscopes have a modular design and there are many accessories available for them

This microscope arm can solve the following issues related to Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival class microscopes:
- if your microscope is missing this element, which happens with microscopes available on the secondary market
- if you own another variant of a microscope from this class, e.g. Carl Zeiss Jena Vertival, and you want to convert it into a "regular" Amplival
- if you own such an arm, but it is of poor quality or has damaged individual components
- if you need one of the component parts of this arm
- if you are building your own DIY project and need a mount compatible with the Carl Zeiss Jena standard

On the last photo, an arrow indicates which element it is and where it is located in the microscope to clearly identify this part.

Important: The popular and visually very similar Carl Zeiss Jena Ergaval microscope, which is often confused with the Amplival model, DOES NOT HAVE such a modular design and this arm does not fit it.

If you need any of the component parts of this arm (e.g. the large fixing screw securing the arm to the microscope stand or the smaller fixing screw securing the head to the arm - search this database or contact us by writing an email.

Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival / Jenaval microscope pancratic condenser Apl. 1.4 with cardioid darkfield

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival / Jenaval microscope pancratic condenser Apl. 1.4 with cardioid darkfield

Description of this part for the microscope.

Pancratic microscope condenser by Carl Zeiss Jena.

Basic data and parameters:
Manufacturer: Carl Zeiss Jena
Version: gray color, from Carl Zeiss Jena ...

Amplival microscope
Number of lenses: 3
Numerical aperture N.A.: variable, from N.A. 0.16 to N.A. 1.4
Aperture diaphragm: yes, screwed on as a detachable module

The Carl Zeiss Jena pancratic condenser has three upper lenses:
- for working with low magnification objectives (usually up to 6.3x)
- Apl. 1.4 for working with high magnification objectives
- an oil immersion cardioid darkfield lens with N.A. = 1.05

Mechanically, this condenser is mounted on dovetail rails located on the microscope stage holder block.

Here are the mounting possibilities of the pancratic condenser to Carl Zeiss Jena microscopes:
- to Amplival, Docuval, Epival, Fluoval, Vertival microscopes, this condenser can be mounted directly
- to Ergaval, Nu, Nu 2, Nf microscopes, this condenser is mounted after unscrewing the aperture diaphragm from it
- to Jenaval, Jenapol, Jenalumar microscopes, this condenser can also be mounted, but it is installed together with the entire stage holder block from the Amplival microscope http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag/artfeb09/rs-jenalumar.html
- be careful, because the Lumipan microscope also features a pancratic condenser, but with a completely different mounting method

This condenser is often used as a "parts donor" for own DIY projects, for example:
- the Apl. 1.4 lens is often used to modify (upgrade) condensers with a lower numerical aperture N.A. in various microscopes
- the darkfield lens is very often used to build a standalone cardioid condenser
- the iris diaphragm has a very wide range of applications

On the last photo, an arrow indicates which element it is and where it is located in the microscope to clearly identify this part. Additionally, the attached video shows how the individual elements of this condenser move.

Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival microscope aperture iris diaphragm for pancratic condenser

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival microscope aperture iris diaphragm for pancratic condenser

Description of this part for the microscope.

Aperture iris diaphragm for the Carl Zeiss Jena panchromatic microscope condenser used in Amplival-class microscopes.

Basic data:
Manufacturer: Carl Zeiss ...

Jena
Version: grey version, removed from a Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival microscope
Mounting method: aperture diaphragm in the form of a detachable module
Centerable: yes

This iris diaphragm module is mechanically mounted to the bottom of the panchromatic condenser.

In Carl Zeiss Jena panchromatic condensers, the diaphragm is designed as a detachable module because it can be removed and replaced, for example, with a phase contrast module or a polarization module. Precisely because this microscope part can be detached, it is often missing from condensers available on the secondary market - over the years it simply gets lost.

Interestingly, this microscope part is very often modified. When users do not have a phase contrast module or a polarization module, they frequently insert polarizing film or custom-made phase rings into the aperture diaphragm module and obtain the functionality they need through DIY modifications.

This module can also solve a common problem found in Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival microscopes, namely damaged diaphragm blades in the condenser.
