PI objectives are among the components of the PZO UPI set (i.e. the so-called DIC).

VERY IMPORTANT: the marking on the objective is "PI" (in lowercase: "pi"), meaning [P]-polarization [I]-interference.
In many descriptions available on the Internet, you can find information that this is a PLAN objective. This is an ERROR caused by misinterpreting the marking as PL.

Note: another INCORRECT piece of information often found online is that these are DIC objectives. This is not true.
DIC according to Pluta (niem: DIC nach Pluta), sold by PZO, achieves the DIC effect (i.e. a 3D relief image) using standard achromatic PZO objectives (and not only those). Objectives marked PI with a red ring are not required for this.

It can be used with any microscope from any manufacturer that supports RMS objectives, TL=160 mm, FL=45 mm.

New (usually Chinese) microscope filters are sometimes not even made of glass. And even if they are made of glass - you may encounter scandalous examples where the glass is only surface-colored. Unfortunately, cheap colored glass filters may not be internally homogeneous and can cause light refraction distortions.

This filter set by PZO was originally sold together with the PZO Biolar microscope. It was manufactured in the 1970s (and certainly before 1977), so these are optical glasses that are about half a century old! They have never been used until now (this is so-called NOS - New Old Stock), therefore these are excellent old-class optical glasses of the highest quality.

Filters with a 32 mm diameter are used - and can be used - in microscopes from various manufacturers:

Important - popular microscopes by Lomo (for example Lomo Biolam) have a 33 mm filter holder, so the filters shown here have too small a diameter and may fall out from some Lomo holders.

PZO Biolar P (Pol)
- PZO Biolar FL (Fluorescence)

The function of this component is to reflect light coming from the microscope base vertically upward so that, after passing through the specimen slide and the objective, it reaches the eyepieces and ultimately the user's eyes.

This cast component bears the marking "AK11", and this designation is commonly used on the secondary market to identify this particular angle mirror. However, it is not a part number, because the marking "AK11" can also be found on other PZO microscope components, which may lead to confusion. It is very likely that the source of this confusion is the attempt to compare PZO metal components with those used in Carl Zeiss Jena microscopes, where cast parts are marked with numbers in the format "Si10 CZ xxxxx". This may incorrectly lead people to assume that PZO used a similar numbering system.

Replacement of the angle mirror in PZO Biolar microscopes may be necessary in the following situations:
- if the mirror has become heavily scratched due to improper cleaning (minor scratches are usually not visible during normal use)
- if the silver reflective coating of the installed mirror becomes oxidized
- if the mirror becomes damaged, chipped, or cracked, for example after coming loose from its mounting

This objective case can be used to store so-called "short" objectives (DIN 33 mm), longer objectives (DIN 37 mm), and long objectives (DIN 45 mm), provided they are not the so-called "thick" type.

For PZO objectives, it can accommodate all standard achromatic objectives as well as all phase contrast objectives. Some unusual PZO microscope objectives do not fit inside, for example the 100x PI objective (with a red ring).

Although this case is of greatest interest to users and collectors of objectives made by the Polish manufacturer PZO, it can of course be used to store objectives from any manufacturer.

- they allow the user to comfortably rest their head against the eyepieces, reducing neck strain during prolonged microscope work (this is not possible with soft rubber eyecups)
- they block stray light entering from the sides, reducing reflections and improving image contrast

Important: no dimensions are provided here. These eyecups fit only 23.2 mm microscope eyepieces manufactured by PZO (PZO Poland / PZO Warszawa). They do not fit microscope eyepieces made by other manufacturers. If a microscope made by another manufacturer (e.g. Lomo Biolam) uses PZO eyepieces, these eyecups will fit. If a PZO microscope (e.g. PZO Biolar) uses eyepieces made by another manufacturer (e.g. Carl Zeiss Jena), these eyecups will not fit even though the microscope itself is made by PZO. These eyecups fit the eyepieces — not a specific microscope.

The nameplate fits all microscopes of the Biolar series based on the PZO Biolar B stand:

All of these nameplates are identical and differ only by the serial number.

Important: this nameplate does NOT fit the microscopes currently (as of 2026) sold as the Biolar C. These are ordinary Chinese OEM microscopes with a "Biolar" sticker.

Several decades have passed since the PZO Biolar series microscopes were manufactured, and these nameplates often simply fall off by themselves.
