Hertel & Reuss Metall / Studio II - EPI microscope mechanical XY stage for reflected light

The name of this microscope part.

Hertel & Reuss Metall / Studio II - EPI microscope mechanical XY stage for reflected light

Description of this part for the microscope.

Mechanical microscope stage for work with reflected light (EPI) with a precise movement mechanism in two XY planes.

Mounting method: screw-mounted. ...

Specimen holder: no

In the place where stage clips normally hold the microscope slide with the specimen, there is a black matte insert covering the central opening in the stage, which makes it possible to work with reflected light. As visible in the photos and in the video - it can be pulled out, and then it becomes a "normal" stage for work with transmitted light (although of course it lacks the clips that hold the specimen slide).

This particular stage worked in a Hertel & Reuss Metall microscope. YES - "Metall" is the model name and not a statement that the microscope is made of metal. It is the same stage that is used in the Hertel & Reuss Studio II microscope and it can be used on both of these microscopes.
However, it is enough to measure the spacing of the screws that mount the stage to the microscope stand - and if they match - it can also be used with other microscope models.

Hertel & Reuss also produced microscopes that were sold under other brand names, so it is likely that this stage will also fit some microscope models sold under the names:
- Kosmos
- Humboldt
- Beck (CBS Beck Kassel)

Carl Zeiss Jena Lumipan / Lg microscope rotating stage | Lomo MBR-3 / Biolam

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Lumipan / Lg microscope rotating, round brass stage | also Lomo MBR-3 / Biolam compatible

Description of this part for the microscope.

Round, brass, rotating microscope stage by Carl Zeiss Jena.

Basic technical data:
- shape: round stage
- rotation: yes
- rotation locking screw: yes
- ...

micrometer scale: no
- dedicated for polarization: no
- material: brass
- mounting diameter: 71 mm

This stage fits the following microscopes:
- Carl Zeiss Jena L-Stativ
- Carl Zeiss Jena Lg
- Carl Zeiss Jena Lu
- Carl Zeiss Jena Lr
- Carl Zeiss Jena Lumipan

This Carl Zeiss Jena stage also fits microscopes:
- Lomo MBI-1
- Lomo MBR-3
- Lomo Biolam
- Lomo sold under the names Bresser and Zenith

If any of the above microscopes currently has a fixed stage (screwed), it is possible to retrofit a holder for interchangeable stages ( like this: https://www.microscopeparts.eu/part/99175) - this applies to both Carl Zeiss Jena and Lomo microscopes.

From the 1930s to approximately the mid-1960s many German manufacturers produced microscopes with the same stage mounting standard, so this stage will also fit them.

How does compatibility of stages between Carl Zeiss Jena and Lomo microscopes work?
- Carl Zeiss Jena stages for L-Stativ microscopes have a mounting diameter of 71 mm
- Lomo stages for MBR-3 / MBI-1 microscopes have a mounting diameter of 73 mm
- The spring-loaded front screw and long side centering screws in the mounting holder compensate for these differences
- Carl Zeiss Jena stages are more solid, heavier, made of brass
- Lomo stages are lighter, made of aluminium with plastic elements

Note that although this is a round and rotating stage, it is not a polarizing stage. It does not have a micrometer scale to read how many degrees (0-360) the rotation has occurred. Without this scale it can of course be used for amateur observations in polarized light, however for professional applications this is disqualifying.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed microscope stage

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed microscope stage

Description of this part for the microscope.

Microscope stage for Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed microscopes.

Compatible with the following Carl Zeiss Jena microscope models:
- Jenamed Variant
- ...

Jenamed Cytology
- Jenamed Hematology
Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed 2 and Jenamed Histology microscopes already use different stages.

This particular example shown and offered here was removed from a Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed Cytology microscope.

The stage in Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed microscopes is a flat, smooth surface permanently attached with screws to the microscope body, onto which cross table mechanisms or specimen holders are mounted - various versions depending on individual needs.

Mechanically, this stage consists of two elements:
- a smooth upper steel surface attached to the cast form underneath
- the lower cast form (with manufacturer number), which is attached to the microscope body
Both parts have an opening for the microscope condenser. The condenser is mounted from the underside of the stage (condenser available separately).

Metal cast or injection-moulded microscope parts made by Carl Zeiss Jena have their own numbers. This part carries the number 2712 (full marking: Si10 CZ 2712).

In the last photo I indicate with an arrow exactly which element it is and where it is located in the microscope.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed Histology microscope stage

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed Histology microscope stage

Description of this part for the microscope.

Microscope stage for Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed Histology microscopes.

The stage used in Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed microscopes is a flat, smooth surface permanently ...

attached to the microscope stand with screws. It serves as a mounting platform for mechanical stages, XY stage mechanisms, or specimen holders - various versions depending on the user's requirements.

Mechanically, this stage consists of two elements:
- a smooth upper steel plate attached to the cast component below
- a lower cast component (with the manufacturer's part number) attached to the microscope stand
Both parts have an opening for the microscope condenser. The condenser is mounted from below the stage (condenser available separately).

Metal cast or injection-moulded microscope parts manufactured by Carl Zeiss Jena carry their own part numbers. This part is marked with number 2712 (full marking: Si10 CZ 2712).

This microscope stage DOES NOT FIT the following Carl Zeiss Jena microscopes:
- Jenamed 2
- Jenamed Variant
- Jenamed Cytology
- Jenamed Hematology
- Jenamed Fluorescence

More precisely: the lower part (marked Si10 CZ 2712) is identical to the one used in other Jenamed microscope models (except Jenamed-2), whereas the smooth upper steel plate used in the Jenamed Histology differs from those used in other models by the size of the condenser cut-out (opening).

In the last photo, I indicate with an arrow exactly which component is being offered and where it is located within the microscope.

Leitz SM-Pol circular transmitted light rotating polarizing microscope stage

The name of this microscope part.

Leitz SM-Pol circular transmitted light rotating polarizing microscope stage

Description of this part for the microscope.

Rotating polarizing microscope stage for transmitted light work for the Leitz Wetzlar SM-Pol polarizing microscope.

Manufacturer: Leitz Wetzlar
Type: stage for ...

transmitted light work
Mounting method: this stage is attached to the microscope body using screws
Centering: in the Leitz Wetzlar SM-Pol microscope, this stage is centered using two screws

Many users of the Leitz Wetzlar SM microscope (or SM-D) ask the following question:
- Can I install the polarizing stage from the Leitz SM-Pol microscope into a Leitz SM microscope and thus convert it into a polarizing microscope?
- The answer is: No. The centering mechanism of this polarizing stage means that this stage is not compatible with the non-polarizing Leitz SM microscope. Moreover, the Leitz SM microscope differs from the polarizing SM-Pol model not only in the stage.

In the last photo, an arrow indicates which element is being offered and where it is located in the microscope, allowing this part to be identified unambiguously. Additionally, the attached video shows the movement mechanism of this stage.
