LOMO MI 90 1.25 microscope objective 1993 | ЛОМО Oil 90x Biolam and Carl Zeiss Jena Lg compatible
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
LOMO (ЛОМО) oil immersion microscope objective, 90x magnification, made in Russia in 1993 (after the collapse of the USSR).
Basic parameters of this
...
objective: Manufacturer: Lomo, Russia (ЛОМО) Magnification: 90x Marking on the objective: МИ 90 1.25 (MI 90 1.25) Numerical aperture N.A.: 1.25 Serial number: starts with "93" Year of manufacture: 1993 Tube length: 160 mm Parfocal length: 33 mm - so-called short barrel objective Cover glass: yes, 0.17 mm thick Immersion: yes, oil Translation: "МИ" stands for "масляная иммерсия", i.e. "oil immersion" Specimen protection: yes, the objective has a spring-loaded front mount that prevents breaking the slide Thread: RMS
Why do I state the year of manufacture in the description of this objective? Older LOMO microscope parts (objectives, microscopes, heads) have the year of manufacture encoded in the serial number: the first two digits of the serial number are the year. Many users want to complete their microscope with parts made in the same year as the microscope itself.
This is a so-called short barrel objective with a parfocal length of 33 mm. It is very often mounted on a 12 mm extension, which allows it to be used in microscopes that require objectives with a 45 mm parfocal length. Professional adapters with protective optics, metal adapters and popular DIY 3D-printed adapters all work well here.
Fun fact: LOMO made adapters between the RMS and M27 threads. Thanks to them, this objective was fitted to the Lomo Biolam I and Lomo Biolam M microscopes. Owners of Carl Zeiss Axio series microscopes with M27 thread also took advantage of this and used these adapters.
LOMO objectives are very popular with owners of microscopes from other manufacturers. Due to historical ties, owners of Carl Zeiss Jena microscopes regard them as an obvious replacement for the German objectives.
This objective fits practically any microscope from any manufacturer, as long as it has an RMS thread and accepts objectives with TL = 160 mm and 33 mm parfocal length (or 37 / 45 mm with a suitable adapter). Several example microscopes are listed in the "compatibility" section, but the list is not complete.

Basic parameters of this objective: Manufacturer: Lomo, Russia (ЛОМО) Magnification: 90x Marking on the objective: МИ 90 1.25 (MI 90 1.25) Numerical aperture N.A.: 1.25 Serial number: starts with "73" Year of manufacture: 1973 Tube length: 160 mm Parfocal length: 33 mm - so-called short barrel objective Cover glass: yes, 0.17 mm thick Immersion: yes, oil Translation: "МИ" stands for "масляная иммерсия", i.e.

Description of this part for the microscope.
LOMO (ЛОМО) microscope objective with low 8x magnification, made in the Soviet Union (CCCP / USSR) in 1972 (i.e. before the collapse of the USSR).
The LOMO 8x
...
objective (model 8 0.20) is frequently used for macro photography with a microscope or a camera (via an RMS adapter or a bellows). Although it is an achromat, it renders fine detail very sharply and performs well in focus stacking. It complements a set together with the LOMO 3.7x, Carl Zeiss Jena Semiplan 6.3x and Nikon M Plan 10x.
Basic parameters of this objective: Manufacturer: Lomo, USSR (ЛОМО) Magnification: 8x Correction: achromatic Marking on the objective: 8 0.20 Numerical aperture N.A.: 0.20 Serial number: starts with "72" Year of manufacture: 1972 Tube length: 160 mm Parfocal length: 33 mm - so-called short barrel objective Cover glass: not critical - objectives with such low magnification work both with and without a cover glass Immersion: no (dry objective) Thread: RMS
Important - this objective is suitable for direct projection photography, as it does not require plan-compensating optics.
A microscope objective with such low magnification (with a 160 mm tube length it gives an 8:1 reproduction ratio) is used, among other things, for observing or photographing: - insects - minerals - inclusions in amber - handwriting - micro shells (micromollusks) - and much more

LOMO / Bresser Biolam 90x Oil microscope objective A 90*1.25 with RMS thread
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Export version of a LOMO (ЛОМО) oil immersion microscope objective with 90x magnification.
Basic parameters of this objective: Manufacturer: Lomo
...
(ЛОМО) Version: this is the OEM version of this objective; it was made for export and has no engraved manufacturer logo Magnification: 90x Correction: achromatic Marking on the objective: A 90*1.25 Numerical aperture N.A.: 1.25 Tube length: 160 mm Parfocal length: 33 mm - so-called short barrel objective Cover glass: yes, 0.17 mm thick Immersion: yes, oil Specimen protection: yes, the objective has a spring-loaded front mount that prevents breaking the slide Thread: RMS
LOMO exported its microscopes to Western Europe, where they were sold under the names Bresser Biolam / Bresser Erudit (mainly in Germany) and Zenith Biolam (in the UK). These microscopes often (but not always) came with special versions of the objectives without the "ЛОМО" engraving.
Apart from the missing manufacturer name, the export version also differs in the way the parameters are marked. On the LOMO version the marking read "МИ 90 1.25", where "МИ" is an abbreviation written in Cyrillic, corresponding to "MI" and meaning "oil immersion". The export version dropped the Cyrillic (and even the immersion information), and the marking changed to "A 90*1.25".
A note on the Bresser Erudit microscope: Bresser sold two different microscopes under this name. The first was a Lomo microscope labelled "Bresser Erudit", the second is the plastic, Chinese-made "Bresser Erudit DLX" microscope. The microscope objective offered here fits the first of these two Erudit microscopes. A photo gallery of the first model can be found here: https://www.microscopeparts.eu/gallery/lomo-erudit-microscopes-207.

Nikon TMS / Labophot-2 Microscope Ph3 40 DL 0.55 LWD 160/0-2 Objective | 40x Phase Contrast with Long Working Distance and Correction Collar
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Achromatic Nikon Ph3 DL 40x / 0.55 LWD microscope objective for brightfield and phase contrast, with 0 - 2.0 mm correction collar, for 160 mm tube length -
...
for inverted and upright biological microscopes, made in Japan.
Basic objective parameters: Manufacturer: Nikon, Japan Model: Ph3 40 DL 0.55 LWD 160/0-2 Magnification: 40x Numerical aperture (N.A.): 0.55 Optical correction: achromat Phase contrast: Ph3 DL - Ph3 indicates the size of the phase ring (requires a matching Ph3 annulus in the condenser), DL (Dark Low) means dark, i.e. positive phase contrast - the object appears darker than the background Working distance (WD): ~2.1 - 2.5 mm - LWD (Long Working Distance) Correction collar: compensates for cover glass or vessel bottom thickness in the range 0 - 2.0 mm Cover glass: the objective can be used without a cover glass, with a standard cover glass approx. 0.17 mm thick, and also with specimens observed through the bottom of a Petri dish up to 2.0 mm thick Immersion: no (dry objective) Tube length: 160 mm Parfocal length: 45 mm Thread: RMS Optics: CF (Nikon CF-160) - requires no compensating eyepiece and allows photography by direct projection
This objective is suitable for: - inverted microscopes - observation through the bottom of a Petri dish or cell culture flask - upright biological microscopes - observation of specimens with or without a cover glass
Phase contrast work requires a compatible phase contrast condenser or a slider with a phase contrast annulus.
Commonly used, inexpensive cover glasses are 0.17 mm thick mainly in theory. Even the standard for class #1.5 allows a range of 0.16 - 0.19 mm, and in cheap Chinese cover glasses you will find in practice pieces from approx. 0.13 to 0.25 mm, often not matching the thickness stated on the box. Only #1.5H (high precision) cover glasses have a guaranteed thickness of 0.170 mm with a tolerance of +/- 0.005 mm. Variation in cover glass thickness clearly degrades image contrast and resolution (spherical aberration). The correction collar fitted to the objective offered here lets you adjust the optics to the combined thickness of the cover glass and the medium layer beneath it. This compensates for most of the variation found in practice.
In addition, the correction collar of this objective can be set to "0" for work without a cover glass, or to large values (up to 2.0 mm) to adapt the optics to observation through a microscope slide (0.8 - 1.2 mm), a glass Petri dish (usually 1.5 - 2.0 mm - thicker dishes are outside the collar range) or a plastic Petri dish (usually approx. 1 mm, in the range 0.8 - 1.2 mm).
This objective fits practically any microscope from any manufacturer, provided it has an RMS thread and uses objectives for 160 mm tube length with a parfocal length of 33, 37 or 45 mm. Some example microscopes are listed in the "compatibility" section, but the list is not complete.

Wild M20 Heerbrugg Fluotar 20 0.60 RMS microscope objective 20x, Switzerland
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Wild Heerbrugg 20x microscope objective from the Wild M20 microscope
Manufacturer: Wild Heerbrugg, Switzerland Model: Fluotar 20 0.60 Magnification:
...
20x Correction: Fluotar (other names: Fluor and fluorite) Numerical aperture N.A.: 0.60 Tube length: 160 mm Parfocal length: 33 mm Cover glass: yes, 0.17 mm thick Immersion: no (dry objective) Thread: RMS
The objective comes in its original protective case marked "Wild Heerbrugg Switzerland".
Fluotar is the name Wild Heerbrugg used for its fluorite objectives, i.e. semi-apochromats - their lenses contain fluorite or glass with similar optical properties. A standard achromat corrects chromatic errors for only two colors (red and blue), so colored fringes may appear along the edges of objects. An apochromat corrects for three colors (red, green and blue) and represents the highest class of correction. The Fluotar sits between them - colored fringes are clearly smaller than with an achromat, although the correction is not as complete as with an apochromat. Fluorite also transmits ultraviolet light well, which is why objectives of this type were used in fluorescence microscopy.
This is a so-called "short barrel" objective with a parfocal length of 33 mm. It is very common to mount this objective on a 12 mm extension, which allows it to be used in microscopes that require 45 mm parfocal objectives. Professional adapters with protective optics, metal adapters and popular DIY 3D-printed adapters all work well for this.
This objective fits practically any microscope from any manufacturer, as long as it has an RMS thread and accepts objectives with TL=160 mm and a parfocal length of 33 mm (or 37 / 45 mm with a suitable adapter). Several example microscopes are listed in the "compatibility" section, but the list is not complete.

LOMO Biolam 8x microscope objective 8 0.20 RMS for macro photography 1991 | Olympus KHC, Bresser Biolam, ЛОМО and Carl Zeiss Jena Nf compatible
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
LOMO (ЛОМО) microscope objective with low 8x magnification, made in 1991.
The LOMO 8x objective (model 8 0.20) is frequently used for macro photography with a
...
microscope or a camera (via an RMS adapter or a bellows). Although it is an achromat, it renders fine detail very sharply and performs well in focus stacking. It complements a set together with the LOMO 3.7x, Carl Zeiss Jena Semiplan 6.3x and Nikon M Plan 10x.
Basic parameters of this objective: Manufacturer: Lomo, Russia (ЛОМО) Magnification: 8x Correction: achromatic Marking on the objective: 8 0.20 Numerical aperture N.A.: 0.20 Serial number: starts with "91" Year of manufacture: 1991 Tube length: 160 mm Parfocal length: 33 mm - so-called short barrel objective Cover glass: not critical - objectives with such low magnification work both with and without a cover glass Immersion: no (dry objective) Thread: RMS
Important - this objective is suitable for direct projection photography, as it does not require plan-compensating optics.
A microscope objective with such low magnification (with a 160 mm tube length it gives an 8:1 reproduction ratio) is used, among other things, for observing or photographing: - insects - minerals - inclusions in amber - handwriting - micro shells (micromollusks) - and much more
Why do I state the year of manufacture in the description of this objective?

Olympus Neo10 DIC Prism NeoSPlan 10x Microscope Objective | BH2-NIC EPI Reflected Light Nomarski DIC
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Nomarski interference contrast prism (NIC / Nomarski DIC) Olympus Neo10 for reflected light (EPI) work with Olympus NeoSPlan 10x objectives.
Basic technical
...
parameters of the prism: Manufacturer: Olympus (Japan) Marking: Neo 10 Olympus Serial number: 200463 Supported objectives: Olympus NeoSPlan 10 0.30 ∞/0 f=180 (manufacturer catalog number: 1-LM430) and Olympus NeoSPlan 10 NIC 0.30 ∞/0 f=180 (manufacturer catalog number: 1-LM434) Male thread: M26 Female thread: M26 Contrast method: Nomarski interference contrast (abbreviation: NIC) Illumination: a compatible reflected light (EPI) illuminator is required
The prism is housed in a suitably shaped metal casing. On one side there is a male thread, on the other a female thread. Mechanically, the prism is screwed with its male thread into the objective nosepiece - and the Olympus Neo SPlan 10 0.30 ∞/0 f=180 objective is screwed into its female thread.
This prism is essential for reflected light observation using the DIC technique. With this technique, details of the observed surface appear three-dimensional and raised, revealing details that remain invisible in classic reflected light brightfield.

Carl Zeiss Jena PK 16x (12) microscope eyepieces 23.2mm (pair)
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Carl Zeiss Jena plan compensating microscope eyepieces with 16x magnification
Manufacturer: Carl Zeiss Jena Model: PK 16x (12) Magnification: 16x Field
...
of view number: 12 Mounting diameter: 23.2 mm Designation: PK = plan compensating - recommended for work with planachromatic objectives, but they also work without any trouble with achromats or apochromats
Because of their very high quality they are often used on microscopes from other manufacturers as well, especially when Carl Zeiss Jena Planachromat objectives are mounted in them. The "compatibility" section lists a long series of microscopes these eyepieces fit - but that list is definitely not complete.
Important: these eyepieces work both on microscopes with a finite tube length (160 mm, for example) and on microscopes with infinity optics. That means you can use them on the Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival microscope just as well as on the Carl Zeiss Jena NU-2 microscope.
A note - eyepieces with such a strong magnification are in my opinion better suited to a quick look than to permanent work. I write "in my opinion" on purpose, because this comes from using them and not from the manufacturer's description. A 16x eyepiece magnification should be treated as a zoom that brings out no additional detail (the resolution is not increased). This matters for example with heads that have their own extra magnification (such as Carl Zeiss Jena heads with a built-in 1.5x or 1.6x factor) - working with a 100x oil immersion objective you then theoretically get 100*1.5*16 = 2400x, while physics does not allow light from the visible range to be usefully magnified for the human eye beyond roughly 1250x - so this is what is called empty magnification.

Carl Zeiss Jena Gleitfett III E410 microscope grease
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Original grease for servicing Carl Zeiss Jena microscopes, type Gleitfett III E410.
I have not managed to find any documentation describing how the individual
...
Gleitfett grades differ in their parameters.
Gleitfett I E10 and Gleitfett II E75 were supplied with the Carl Zeiss Jena micromanipulator. The Gleitfett III E410 offered here was supplied with the Carl Zeiss Jena Neophot-21 microscope.
This MAY suggest (although I have no proof in the form of manufacturer documentation) that the lower numbers (I and II) and the lower values of the "E" parameter (E10 and E75) were intended for finer mechanisms - and may therefore have a lower viscosity, for example. The III E410 grease, with its high "E" value, was supplied with a heavy microscope built around massive mechanics - so it may well be thicker.
This grease can of course be used on microscopes from other manufacturers as well - a few are listed in the "compatibility" section, but that is by no means a complete list.

Nikon E.100 1.25 oil 160/0.17 microscope objective 100x DIN RMS | Zeiss compatible
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Achromatic oil immersion microscope objective made by Nikon, with 100x magnification and a 45 mm parfocal length.
Manufacturer: Nikon (Japan) Magnification:
...
100x Colour correction: achromatic Model: E. 100 1.25 oil 160/0.17 Numerical aperture N.A.: 1.25 Cover glass: yes, 0.17 mm thick Thread: RMS Tube length: 160 mm Parfocal length: 45 mm (long barrel objective) Immersion: yes, oil Operating mode: objectives marked "E." are already CF objectives (CFN to be precise) and need no additional correction
This objective needs no additional correction from a tube lens or from the eyepieces. That makes it possible to fit it to microscopes of other makes, and in photomicrography it works in direct projection mode (it throws the image straight onto the camera sensor, with no relay optics needed).
This is the so-called black series of objectives, named after the black plastic barrel. They were used mainly in the Nikon Alphaphot YS2 microscope. That was the period when manufacturers were experimenting with a new look for microscope parts, and exactly the same black series appeared for instance in the Leitz / Leica HM-LUX 3 microscope or in the Will Wetzlar V300 / V355 / V365 microscopes.
This objective fits practically any microscope of any make, provided it has an RMS thread and supports objectives with TL = 160 mm and parfocal lengths of 33 / 37 and 45 mm. A few such microscopes are listed in the "compatibility" section, but that list is not complete.

LOMO / Bresser Biolam 40x microscope objective 40 0,65 with RMS thread
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Export version of a LOMO (ЛОМО) microscope objective with 40x magnification.
Basic parameters of this objective: Manufacturer: Lomo (ЛОМО) Version: this is
...
the OEM version of this objective; it was made for export and has no engraved manufacturer logo Magnification: 40x Correction: achromatic Marking on the objective: 40 0,65 Numerical aperture N.A.: 0,65 Tube length: 160 mm Parfocal length: 33 mm - so-called short barrel objective Cover glass: yes, 0.17 mm thick Immersion: no Specimen protection: yes, the objective has a spring-loaded front mount that prevents breaking the slide Thread: RMS

Carl Zeiss Jena 23,2mm microscope photo tube | projection eyepiece and camera adapter LOMO compatible
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Carl Zeiss Jena photo tube / camera adapter - also fitting microscopes from other makers: LOMO, Meopta, Olympus, IOR.
The tube allows a camera or a camera body to
...
be attached to a trinocular head or directly to the microscope body, even when there is no trinocular head.
Basic technical parameters of this tube: Manufacturer: Carl Zeiss Jena Colour: grey Tilt angle: none, this is a straight tube Internal optics: none - not even a deflecting prism Mounting to the trinocular head or microscope body: ring with a dovetail Dovetail diameter: 41 mm Type of connection at the output: empty tube / barrel Tube diameter at the output: 23.2 mm internal diameter Length of the barrel / tube: 25 mm Length adjustment: no - this is not a tube with adjustable height
Since the adapter has an empty barrel with an internal diameter of 23.2 mm on the output side, a projection eyepiece of that diameter can be placed in it, or a so-called "USB eyepiece", that is a digital microscope camera. Adapters between the 23.2 mm barrel and the M42 thread are also widely available, and from the M42 thread you can move on to any other mount: Nikon, Canon, Sony and others.
Such a tube can be mounted directly on the microscope body instead of the head. A dovetail seat with a diameter of 41.0 - 41.5 mm is found, among others, on the microscopes: - Carl Zeiss Jena - LOMO - Meopta - IOR - Reichert Biopan - Olympus CH
It is also often used in microscopes with a slightly larger seat, among others Zeiss West Germany, Leitz Wetzlar, PZO, Will Wetzlar, Hund Wetzlar.
The adapter can equally well be fitted onto trinocular heads, as many of them have a seat prepared for it, among others: - the output in the trinocular tubes of the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed, Jenaval, Jenalumar, Jenatech, Jenavert, Jenapol microscopes - the LOMO TRN-1 heads (ЛОМО ТРН-1), found in the LOMO Polam microscopes - some versions of the intermediate photo tubes for the Carl Zeiss Jena Mikroval series microscopes (others require a tube screwed onto a thread)
This is not a "tube for one specific microscope model". A trinocular head can be mounted not only on the microscope it was sold with - it is therefore correct to assume that this is a universal tube, with a 41 mm dovetail on one side and a 23.2 mm barrel on the other.
The "compatibility" section gives an example list of microscopes this tube fits, although it is not a complete list.

LOMO 140-200mm microscope photo tube 23,2mm | projection eyepiece and camera adapter Carl Zeiss Jena compatible
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
LOMO 140 - 200 mm photo tube / camera adapter with adjustable length - but also fitting many other microscopes from Carl Zeiss Jena, Meopta, Olympus, IOR and others.
...
The tube allows a camera or a camera body to be attached to a trinocular head or directly to the microscope body, even when there is no trinocular head.
Basic technical parameters of this tube: Manufacturer: LOMO (ЛОМО) Colour: black, rings and barrel chrome-plated Tilt angle: none, this is a straight tube Internal optics: none - not even a deflecting prism Mounting to the trinocular head or microscope body: ring dovetail (male part) Dovetail diameter: 41 mm Type of connection at the output: empty tube / barrel Tube diameter at the output: 23.2 mm internal diameter Length of the barrel / tube: variable Length adjustment: yes - the barrel is extendable, with a scale from 140 to 200 mm and a knurled locking ring
This is the version with adjustable tube length. A scale from 140 to 200 mm is engraved on the extendable barrel, with a reference line and intermediate divisions, and the setting is locked with a knurled ring. This gives two things at once. First, a continuous change of the image scale - the longer the tube, the larger the image falling on the sensor or the film, so the framing can be adjusted without changing the objective. Second, and more importantly, the ability to work with objectives computed for different optical tube lengths: 160, 170, 180, 190 and 200 mm. Carl Zeiss Jena and LOMO objectives are computed for 160 mm, Leitz Wetzlar for 170 mm, some objectives of metallurgical and measuring microscopes for 190 or 200 mm - here you simply set the barrel to the right value and the objective works under its design conditions, instead of delivering an image with residual aberration.
A dovetail seat with a diameter of 41.0 - 41.5 mm is found, among others, on the microscopes: - LOMO - Carl Zeiss Jena - Meopta - IOR - Reichert Biopan - Olympus CH
It is also often used in microscopes with a slightly larger seat, among others Zeiss West Germany, Leitz Wetzlar, PZO, Will Wetzlar, Hund Wetzlar.
The "compatibility" section gives an example list of microscopes this tube fits, although it is not a complete list.
The last photo shows a LOMO Erudit microscope with this photo tube and a projection eyepiece mounted. It is an example of use.

LOMO / Bresser Biolam 40x 0.65 F-2 phase contrast microscope objective 1976 with RMS thread | Carl Zeiss Jena compatible
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
LOMO microscope objective with 40x magnification, intended for second-type phase contrast and for use with the LOMO KF-5 condenser.
Basic parameters of this
...
objective: Manufacturer: Lomo (ЛОМО) Magnification: 40x Correction: achromatic Engraving on the objective: 40 0,65 Ф-2 ЛОМО Numerical aperture N.A.: 0,65 Working distance: 0,55 mm Tube length: 160 mm Parfocal length: 33 mm - a so-called short barrel objective Cover glass: yes, 0,17 mm thick Phase contrast: yes, type F-2 (Ф-2), which means there are two phase rings inside the objective Immersion: no (dry objective, sometimes called an "air immersion" objective) Specimen protection: no, the objective has no spring-loaded mechanism Thread: RMS Work in brightfield without phase contrast: possible, but even the manufacturer states in the manual that the image quality is worse than with an objective without phase rings inside
A very important note: two phase rings inside an objective bring to mind variable phase contrast (PhZ at PZO or PhV at Carl Zeiss Jena). With LOMO, however, this is rather something like a "second type of positive phase contrast". LOMO states in the manual (https://laboratorium.dp.ua/item/68) that one image is obtained when light passes through both rings (with the condenser iris diaphragm open) - and a different one when the diaphragm is closed far enough that light no longer reaches the outer, wide ring and only the inner ring works. The manufacturer recommends viewing the specimen in both modes, because together they give a more reliable idea of its structure. The contrast stays positive (thicker or denser parts of the specimen appear darker against a bright background), and both modes differ from work with the single-ring "Ф" objectives and the LOMO KF-4 condenser (ЛОМО KФ-4), where both the objective and the condenser diaphragm have only one ring. So the resulting effect does change - but this is not variable phase contrast; the change is stepwise (either-or), not continuous.
The objective presented here fits the LOMO KF-5 condenser (ЛОМО KФ-5). That condenser has a mounting diameter of 37 mm and is very often used on microscopes from other makers, among them Carl Zeiss Jena and Olympus (especially Olympus CH). With a suitable build-up ring fitted (3D printed, for example), this condenser is commonly used in microscopes with a 39,5 mm condenser seat as well. The instructions for setting up LOMO KF-5 phase contrast can be found here: https://scopica.ru/proj/ustroystvo-dlya-nablyudeniya-metodom-fazovogo-kontrasta-kf-5/
This is a so-called short barrel objective, with a parfocal length of 33 mm. It is very commonly mounted on a 12 mm extension, which allows it to be used in microscopes that require objectives of 45 mm length. Professional adapters with protective optics, metal adapters and the popular 3D printed DIY solutions all work here.
LOMO objectives are very popular with owners of microscopes from other makers. Because of the historical links, owners of Carl Zeiss Jena microscopes treat them as an obvious substitute for those German objectives.
This objective fits practically any microscope from any maker, provided it has an RMS thread and accepts objectives with TL=160 mm and a parfocal length of 33 mm (or 37 / 45 mm if a suitable adapter is used). A few such microscopes are listed in the "compatibility" section, but that is not a complete list.

Will Wetzlar V200 / V100 microscope WF 10x single eyepiece with 23,2mm diameter
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Single WF 10x widefeld microscope eyepiece by Will Wetzlar
Microscope eyepiece (1 pc.) Manufacturer: Will Wetzlar Model: WF 10x Magnification:
...
10x Mounting diameter: 23.2 mm
Because this is important, I will write it again: this is a single eyepiece, not a pair of eyepieces.
This is a solution for people who: - either have a pair of these eyepieces, but one of them needs to be replaced - or have a microscope with a monocular head
For Will Wetzlar microscopes, eyepieces from practically any manufacturer can be used, provided that they are designed for a finite tube length system and have a mounting diameter of 23.2 mm. However, many users appreciate having original parts.
This eyepiece also works the other way around - it fits almost any microscope from any manufacturer that allows the use of eyepieces with a mounting diameter of 23.2 mm. Users of microscopes from many manufacturers are happy to choose German eyepieces because of their high quality. I have included some examples in the "compatibility" section, but this is definitely not a complete list.
Microscope users have several names for eyepieces of this type with a large field of view. Among others: - wide field eyepiece - widefield ocular - WF eyepiece - wide angle eyepiece - large field of view eyepiece

Zeiss PN 467836 blue frosted microscope filter 32mm | Blauglas matt 46 78 36
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Carl Zeiss blue matt microscope filter
Basic parameters of this microscope filter: Manufacturer: Carl Zeiss West Germany Name: Blauglas matt Manufacturer
...
catalogue number: 46 78 36 (also written as 467836) Colour: blue matt Diameter: 32 mm Material: glass
This is a filter that combines the functions of a blue filter and a ground glass diffuser: - the blue filter is used to convert the yellow, warm light of the bulb into light closer to white light - the matt filter (called a diffuser or ground glass) is used to even out the light across the whole area of the specimen and to remove the visible filament of the bulb
This does, however, have one consequence: without a visible filament it is not possible to work with illumination set up according to the Koehler method - and Zeiss mentions this in the leaflet supplied with the filter.
Very often only one or two microscope filters can be fitted in a microscope, for example one on the illuminator and the second in the holder below the condenser. The fact that the glass filter offered here is a 2-in-1 solution makes it possible to save the possible second slot for another filter.
The diameter of 32 mm is a standard with many manufacturers, which means this filter can be used with microscopes of numerous brands. The "compatibility" section lists over a dozen such microscopes, but it is not a complete list.

Carl Zeiss Jena 8 0,20 160- microscope objective 8x RMS | also for macro photography | Lomo Biolam compatible
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Carl Zeiss Jena microscope objective with a low magnification of 8x.
This is one of many production variants of the 8x objective that were fitted to Carl Zeiss
...
Jena microscopes over nearly 100 years. They differ in the appearance of the barrel and in the engraving.
Appearance of this variant of the Carl Zeiss Jena 8x objective: - black section next to the thread - silver upper section - the marking "8/0,20 160/-" on one side of the silver part of the barrel - the Carl Zeiss Jena logo and the serial number on the other side of the silver barrel
Here (https://www.microscopeparts.eu/part/99852) you will see the same Carl Zeiss Jena 8x objective, but in a slightly older variant (without the value "160/-" engraved on the barrel).
The Carl Zeiss Jena 8x objective is often used for macro photography - both on a microscope and on a camera (with an RMS adapter or a bellows unit). Although it is an achromatic objective, it renders fine detail very well and works nicely for focus stacking. It is a good complement to a set together with the Carl Zeiss Jena Semiplan 3.2x, LOMO 3.7x, Carl Zeiss Jena Semiplan 6.3x and Nikon M Plan 10x objectives.
Basic parameters of this objective: Manufacturer: Carl Zeiss Jena Magnification: 8x Correction: achromatic Marking on the objective: 8/0,20 160/- Numerical aperture N.A.: 0.20 Serial number: above 580 000 Tube length: 160 mm Parfocal length: 33 mm - a so-called short barrel objective Cover glass: either way - objectives with such a low magnification can work both with and without a cover glass Immersion: no (a so-called dry objective) Thread: RMS
Important - this objective is suitable for taking pictures with the "direct-projection" technique, because it does not require plan-compensating optics.
A microscope objective with such a low magnification (keeping the 160 mm tube we get an 8:1 reproduction ratio) is used for observation or macro photography of, among other things: - insects - minerals - inclusions in amber - handwriting - micro shells
Why do I describe the appearance of this variant so precisely in the description of this objective? Some users care about completing their Carl Zeiss Jena microscope with parts from the same series and roughly from the same period. The exact way the parameters are written on the barrel makes it possible to compare this objective not only from the photos in the gallery, but also at the level of the text description - especially for AI systems.
This is a so-called "short barrel objective", with a parfocal length of 33 mm. Very often this objective is mounted on a 12 mm extension, which makes it possible to use it in microscopes that require objectives with a parfocal length of 45 mm. Professional adapters with corrective optics work well here, as do plain metal adapters and the popular DIY parts from a 3D printer.
This objective fits practically any microscope from any manufacturer, provided it has an RMS thread and supports objectives with TL=160 mm and a parfocal length of 33 mm (or 37 / 45 mm if we use a suitable adapter). A few examples of such microscopes are listed in the "compatibility" section, but that is not a complete list.
Carl Zeiss Jena objectives are very popular among users of microscopes from other manufacturers. Because of the historical connections, owners of LOMO microscopes treat them as an obvious replacement for their own Soviet optics.
After the Second World War the Carl Zeiss Jena production plant ended up in the Soviet occupation zone, and the Russians began copying the German technical documentation - see for yourself that the LOMO 8x objectives are an exact copy of the objective presented here: https://www.microscopeparts.eu/?search_2=8x&search_7=ob&search_8=lomo. The objectives made for school microscopes such as the Opta Junat are also a clone of Carl Zeiss Jena optics: https://www.microscopeparts.eu/part/00639.

Carl Zeiss Jena 8 0,20 microscope objective 8x RMS | also for macro photography | Lomo Biolam compatible
|
|
Appearance of this variant of the Carl Zeiss Jena 8x objective: - black section next to the thread - silver upper section - the digit "8" on the first line and "0,20" on the second line, on one side of the silver part of the barrel - the Carl Zeiss Jena logo and the serial number on the other side of the silver barrel
Here (https://www.microscopeparts.eu/part/99851) you will see the same Carl Zeiss Jena 8x objective, but in a slightly newer variant (with the value "160/-" engraved on the barrel).
Basic parameters of this objective: Manufacturer: Carl Zeiss Jena Magnification: 8x Correction: achromatic Marking on the objective: 8 0,20 Numerical aperture N.A.: 0.20 Serial number: 503 729 Tube length: 160 mm Parfocal length: 33 mm - a so-called short barrel objective Cover glass: either way - objectives with such a low magnification can work both with and without a cover glass Immersion: no (a so-called dry objective) Thread: RMS

Carl Zeiss Jena Lumipan 23,2mm microscope photo tube black | projection eyepiece and camera adapter LOMO compatible
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Photo tube / camera adapter Carl Zeiss Jena - also fitting microscopes of other makers: LOMO, Meopta, Olympus, IOR or Gamma.
The tube allows you to connect a
...
camera to a trinocular head or directly to the microscope stand, even when there is no trinocular head at all.
This is a black tube with an upper element (barrel) 55 mm long. Here (https://www.microscopeparts.eu/gallery/91057) you can see a functionally identical adapter, but grey and with an upper barrel only 25 mm long.
Black adapters of this kind come from the era of the Carl Zeiss Jena L stands (models Carl Zeiss Jena Lg, Lumipan, Ng, Nf or Nu). The grey ones are newer, from the era of the Mikroval series (models Carl Zeiss Jena Laboval, Eduval, Ergaval or Amplival and Docuval).
The mounting fit is of course identical, so both can be used interchangeably.
Basic technical parameters of this tube: Manufacturer: Carl Zeiss Jena Colour: black Inclination angle: none, this is a straight tube Internal optics: none - not even a deflecting prism Mounting to a trinocular head or microscope stand: ring dovetail Ring dovetail diameter: 41.5 mm Type of connection at the output: empty barrel / tube Tube diameter at the output: 23.2 mm inner diameter Barrel / tube length: 55 mm Tube length adjustment: no - this is not a height-adjustable tube
Because on the output side this adapter has an empty barrel with an inner diameter of 23.2 mm, you can place in it a projection eyepiece of that diameter or a so-called USB eyepiece, that is a digital microscope camera. In addition, adapters between the 23.2 mm barrel and the M42 thread are widely available, and from the M42 thread you can already move on to any other mount: Nikon, Canon, Sony and all the rest.
Such a tube can be mounted directly on the microscope stand, in place of the head. A seat for a ring dovetail of 41.0 - 41.5 mm diameter is found among others in the microscopes: - Carl Zeiss Jena - LOMO - Meopta - IOR - Reichert Biopan - Olympus CH - Gamma
It is also used in microscopes with a slightly larger seat, among others Zeiss West Germany, Leitz Wetzlar, PZO, Will Wetzlar, Hund Wetzlar.
The adapter can likewise be fitted onto trinocular heads, as many of them have a seat prepared for it, among others: - the output in the trinocular tubes of the microscopes Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed, Jenaval, Jenalumar, Jenatech, Jenavert, Jenapol - the LOMO TRN-1 heads (ЛОМО ТРН-1), found in LOMO Polam microscopes - some versions of the black intermediate photo tubes for the microscopes Carl Zeiss Jena Lg / Lumipan / Nf and of the grey ones from the Mikroval series (others require a tube that screws in on a thread)
This is not a tube for one particular microscope model. A trinocular head can be mounted not only on the microscope it was sold with, so the correct assumption is that this is a universal tube with a ring dovetail of 41.5 mm diameter on one side and a barrel of 23.2 mm diameter on the other.
In the compatibility section you will find an example list of microscopes this tube fits, although that list is not complete.

Olympus BX microscope U-TR30 trinocular head case
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Top housing part (cover) of the microscope trinocular head Olympus U-TR30 / U-TR30-2
The Olympus U-TR30 / U-TR30-2 photo-trinocular heads are most often used in

This is a black housing made of cast metal. Metal, cast or injection-molded parts of Olympus carry their own numbers. This microscope element bears the number AB8931.
Because this is a brittle casting, the housing can crumble, crack or break. The remedy is then to replace the complete head or just this part of the housing.
In the compatibility section you will find an example list of microscopes the U-TR30 fits, although that list is not complete.

Olympus BX microscope 42mm photo tube mount dovetail for trinocular head
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
A female dovetail mount with a 42 mm internal diameter, for fitting the photo tube into the trinocular heads of Olympus microscopes.
This particular mount was
...
removed from an Olympus U-TR30 trinocular head.
The Olympus U-TR30 / U-TR30-2 photo-trinocular heads are most often used in the following microscopes: - Olympus CX30 / CX31 - Olympus CX40 / CX41 / CX43 - Olympus BX40 / BX41 / BX43 - Olympus BX50 / BX51 / BX53 - Olympus BX60 / BX61 - Olympus MX40 / MX50 - and probably others
Olympus offers a whole range of tubes with a 42.1 mm mounting diameter, so such mounts are fitted not only to the U-TR30 head.
The female mount for adapters with a 42 mm dovetail (more precisely, according to the manufacturer specification: 42.1 mm) is found, among others, on the following microscope heads and tubes: - Olympus U-TR30 - Olympus U-TR30-2 - Olympus U-TR30H - Olympus U-TR30IR - Olympus U-TR30NIR - Olympus U-TTR-2 - Olympus U-ETR3 - Olympus U-ETR30 - Olympus U-ETR-4 - Olympus U-SWTR - Olympus U-SWTR-2 - Olympus U-SWTR-3 - Olympus U-SWETR - Olympus U-SWETTR-2 - Olympus U-SWETTR-5 - Olympus MX-SWETTR - Olympus U-CTR30-2 - Olympus U-TRU - Olympus U-TRUS - Olympus U-MPH - Olympus U-TLU - Olympus SZX-TR30 - Olympus SZX2-TTR - Olympus SZX2-TTRPT - and probably others
Important: as of now (2026) the microscope brand "Olympus" has been replaced by "Evident". Evident microscopes (e.g. Evident BX53) still keep the previous standard, so the 42mm mount is also found in products carrying that brand.
Metal, cast or injection-molded parts of Olympus carry their own numbers. This microscope element bears the number AB8980.
Because this is a brittle casting, the mount can crumble, crack or break. The remedy is then to replace the complete head or just this part - fortunately this mount is a separate component, fixed to the head with three screws.
And this implies another important matter: the diameter of the mount is standard, but I cannot guarantee that a mount fixed with exactly three screws fits every one of those heads and tubes, and even if it does - whether their hole spacing is the same in each of those models. The user should check that for himself based on the photos in the gallery.
Where the descriptions quoting a 51 mm diameter come from? On the website of "Martin Microscope" and in many other descriptions available online, exactly the same (sic!) mount is described as having a diameter of 51 mm. That is the internal diameter of the ring, measured without the seat of the dovetail taper. So the 51 mm at "Martin Microscope" refers to the same mount into which a 42 mm dovetail is inserted.
This is not a part for one specific microscope model. As listed above - such a mount can be found in many heads and tubes, and these in turn in any microscope the user fits them into.
In the "compatibility" section there is an example list of microscopes the U-TR30 head fits, although it is not a complete list.

Olympus BH-2 microscope inclining prism for BH2-BI30 binocular head
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Inclining prism for the Olympus BH2-BI30 binocular head, most often fitted to Olympus BH-2 microscopes
In the Olympus BH2-BI30 binocular head this prism is
...
attached from the inside to the dovetail that holds the head on the microscope stand.
Important: this is the prism only - without the cast metal holder the prism is supposed to be glued into.
The irreplaceable Carl Hunsinger has written an excellent service manual for this microscope head: https://www.alanwood.net/downloads/olympus-bh2-bi30-binocular-head-repair.pdf.
This prism is not a spare part for the microscope itself. It is a repair part for the Olympus BH2-BI30 microscope head - and that head can sit on various microscopes, even on instruments from manufacturers other than Olympus. The most important microscopes this head is most often used with are listed in the "compatibility" section, but this is by no means a complete list.

Olympus BH-2 microscope left eyepiece prism for BH2-TR30 trinocular and BH2-BI30 binocular head
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Left eyepiece prism for the microscope heads used on Olympus BH-2 / IMT-2 microscopes.
This is the prism that is mounted inside the head on the left eyepiece tube.
...
The metal casting - the one with the eyepiece tube that the prism holder is attached to - carries the number AB0303.
This particular prism was removed from an Olympus BH2-BI30 binocular head, but it should also fit, among others, the following microscope heads with eyepiece tubes for eyepieces of 23.2 mm diameter: - Olympus BH2-BI30 - Olympus BH2-TR30 - Olympus BH2-TBI - Olympus BH2-TTR - Olympus BH2-TET
Before you decide to use it to repair a head other than the one it was removed from, I recommend checking it first with specialists on forums or groups devoted to Olympus microscopes.
The prism shown here sits in its original holder, and the whole assembly is attached to the left eyepiece tube (casting AB0303) - and that is exactly what I am offering, as a complete unit.
This prism is not a spare part for the microscope itself. It is a repair part for an Olympus microscope head - and that head can sit on various microscopes, even on instruments from manufacturers other than Olympus. The most important microscopes this head is most often used with are listed in the "compatibility" section, but this is by no means a complete list.
The irreplaceable Carl Hunsinger has written an excellent service manual for the BH2-BI30 microscope head (https://www.alanwood.net/downloads/olympus-bh2-bi30-binocular-head-repair.pdf) and for the BH2-TR30 (https://www.alanwood.net/downloads/olympus-bh2-tr30-trinocular-head-repair-manual.pdf).
Here are the microscope models in which the heads this prism fits are most often used: - Olympus BH-2 BHS - Olympus BH-2 BHT - Olympus BH-2 BHTU - Olympus IMT-2
A note on the eyepiece tube diameter: the mounting diameter for the eyepieces is 23.2 mm, but some sources state 23 mm or 23.5 mm - that is a rounded measurement, and it is still one and the same tube.

Olympus BH-2 microscope right eyepiece prism for BH2-TR30 trinocular and BH2-BI30 binocular head | AB0304
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Right eyepiece prism for the microscope heads used on Olympus BH-2 / IMT-2 microscopes.
This is the prism that is mounted inside the head on the right eyepiece
...
tube. The metal casting - the one with the eyepiece tube that the prism holder is attached to - carries the number AB0304.
The prism shown here sits in its original holder, and the whole assembly is attached to the right eyepiece tube (casting AB0304) - and that is exactly what I am offering, as a complete unit.

Olympus BH-2 microscope eyepiece tube with diopter adjustment ring for BH2-TR30 trinocular and BH2-BI30 binocular head
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Eyepiece tube with a 23.2 mm seat diameter and a diopter adjustment ring, for the heads used on Olympus BH-2 / IMT-2 microscopes
This is a tube with a diopter
...
adjustment ring fitted, which lets you correct the refractive error of one eye and focus the image properly. It is mounted on the left side of the microscope head, and without certain DIY modifications it cannot be moved to the right side.
This particular tube was removed from an Olympus BH2-BI30 binocular head, but it should also fit, among others, the following microscope heads with tubes for eyepieces of 23.2 mm diameter: - Olympus BH2-BI30 - Olympus BH2-TR30 - Olympus BH2-TBI - Olympus BH2-TTR - Olympus BH2-TET

Olympus BH2-SC iris diaphragm blades for microscope condenser | U-SC and U-SC3 compatible
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Single iris diaphragm blades for the Olympus BH2-SC microscope condenser and similar ones.
Basic parameters of a single diaphragm blade: Blade width: 5
...
mm Distance between the pins: 26 mm How the distance was measured: from the centre of one pin to the centre of the other How the pins are fitted: one on the underside, the other facing outward Pin width: 2 mm
These particular blades were removed from an Olympus BH2-SC condenser taken out of an Olympus BH-2 BHS microscope.
I could not confirm this, but everything indicates that these blades will also fit the iris diaphragms in the following microscope condensers for Olympus BX microscopes: - Olympus U-SC - Olympus U-SC-2 - Olympus U-SC3
The microscope condensers listed above are sometimes referred to collectively as: - Olympus Achromat 0.9 flip-out condenser - Olympus 0.9 swing-out condenser
Before you decide to use these diaphragm blades to repair a condenser other than the one they were removed from - compare their appearance and dimensions carefully.
It is quite possible that Olympus, like many other manufacturers, used the same diaphragm blades in most microscope condensers of that era, for example: - Olympus U-POC - Olympus U-PCD - Olympus U-AAC - Olympus U-UCD
Damaged iris diaphragm blades are one of the more common faults in microscopes. It usually happens when: - the grease in the mechanism that opens and closes the diaphragm has dried out and the user tries to force it - a foreign body gets between the blades (for example a chip of glass from a broken slide) - the diaphragm is closed too quickly or opened too far
In the BH2-SC / U-SC condensers the iris diaphragm sits inside the condenser housing, it is not a separate part screwed on underneath. It follows that if the iris diaphragm fails you can: - leave the damaged diaphragm in place and not use the condenser to its full potential - replace the whole condenser - repair the diaphragm by replacing the damaged blades
These separate diaphragm blades are not a spare part for a microscope. They are parts for repairing the diaphragm in a microscope condenser - and that condenser can sit in various microscopes.
Here are examples of microscope models in which the condenser models are most often used whose iris diaphragms the blades offered here fit: - Olympus BH-2: BHS / BHT / BHTU - Olympus BX: BX40 / BX50 / BX51 / BX60
The most important microscopes used with the condenser models mentioned here are listed in the "compatibility" section, but this is by no means a complete list.
The last photos show the microscope condenser from whose diaphragm the blades offered here were taken.
A curiosity: it is possible that these blades also fit the iris diaphragm of the Meiji MA976 microscope condenser.

Olympus BH2-SC protective glass for microscope condenser | glass disc above the iris diaphragm, also for U-SC and U-SC3
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Protective glass for the iris diaphragm of the Olympus BH2-SC microscope condensers, and also for the U-SC and its variants.
The achromatic BH2-SC / U-
...
SC microscope condensers have an upper, swing-out lens. When it is in the light path, the condenser offers N.A. 0.9. With the top lens swung out, the condenser works at a low numerical aperture of N.A. 0.16 (values from 0.16 to 0.2 are quoted on the internet). In fact such a low N.A. is achieved with the iris diaphragm alone, without any lens at all - but in these condensers Olympus fitted a protective glass (a round glass disc) protecting the diaphragm from dirt that could fall into it from above (for example from the stage) and damage it. This glass is cemented into the conical casting that forms the condenser body.
It is exactly this part that I offer here, that is the protective glass (the so-called zero glass) cemented into its housing.
This particular part was removed from an Olympus BH2-SC condenser taken out of an Olympus BH-2 BHS microscope.
I could not confirm this, but everything indicates that this protective glass will also fit the microscope condensers for Olympus BX microscopes: - Olympus U-SC - Olympus U-SC-2 - Olympus U-SC3
The microscope condensers listed above are sometimes referred to collectively as: - Olympus Achromat 0.9 flip-out condenser - Olympus 0.9 swing-out condenser
Before you decide to use this glass with its housing to repair a condenser other than the one it was removed from - compare their appearance and dimensions carefully.
This glass is damaged quite often: - it can get scratched during cleaning - it can crack due to stress - it can get broken during unprotected storage or in transit
The glass protecting the diaphragm is not a spare part for a microscope. It is a part for repairing the condenser - and that condenser can sit in various microscopes.
Here are examples of microscope models in which the condensers that this glass fits are most often used: - Olympus BH-2: BHS / BHT / BHTU - Olympus BX: BX40 / BX50 / BX51 / BX60
The most important microscopes used with the condenser models mentioned here are listed in the "compatibility" section, but this is by no means a complete list.

Olympus BH2-SC achromat 0.9 microscope condenser top lens | also for U-SC and U-SC3
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Top dry achromatic lens 0.9 for the Olympus BH2-SC microscope condensers, and also for the U-SC and its variants.
The achromatic BH2-SC / U-SC microscope
...
condensers have an upper, swing-out lens. When it is in the light path, the condenser offers N.A. 0.9. With the top lens swung out, the condenser works at a low numerical aperture of N.A. 0.16 (values from 0.16 to 0.2 are quoted on the internet). This swing-out lens sits in a mount on the swing arm and is held by three screws. The seating diameter is 23 mm and the seat itself has no thread, unlike for example the top lenses in the Olympus U-UCD condenser.
It is exactly this part that I offer here, that is the top achromatic 0.9 lens for use without immersion oil (dry).
This particular lens was removed from an Olympus BH2-SC condenser taken out of an Olympus BH-2 BHS microscope.
I could not confirm this, but everything indicates that this top lens will also fit the microscope condensers for Olympus BX microscopes: - Olympus U-SC - Olympus U-SC-2 - Olympus U-SC3
The microscope condensers listed above are sometimes referred to collectively as: - Olympus Achromat 0.9 flip-out condenser - Olympus 0.9 swing-out condenser
Before you decide to use this lens in a condenser other than the one it was removed from - compare their appearance and dimensions carefully.
A note on the appearance of the top lens: sometimes a white protective cap is fitted over the top lens. It is an original Olympus item and it changes how the top lens looks - not only the colour of the mount (from black to white) but also its shape (from a cone to a flatter form). It is still the same lens, not a different, white one.
This top lens is not a spare part for a microscope. It is a part for repairing or rebuilding the condenser - and that condenser can sit in various microscopes.
Here are examples of microscope models in which the condensers that this top lens fits are most often used: - Olympus BH-2: BHS / BHT / BHTU - Olympus BX: BX40 / BX50 / BX51 / BX60

Olympus BH2-SC swing-out arm for microscope condenser top lens Achromat 0.9 | compatible with U-SC and U-SC3
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Swing-out arm for the top lens of the Olympus BH2-SC microscope condensers, and also for the U-SC and its variants.
It is exactly this arm that does the swinging, and it is what I offer here: it holds the top lens in its mount above the condenser body and at the same time lets you swing it out of the light path.
In the BH2-SC / U-SC condensers this arm with its mount is a single casting together with the lever the user grips. The whole part is fastened to the condenser housing with a single screw (included). The lens sits in the mount without a thread and is clamped by three screws - you can see it and read its description here: https://www.microscopeparts.eu/part/99924.
The inner diameter of the mount is 23 mm.
Please note: originally there was a rubber sleeve on the small lever, which you grip with your fingers, so that the grip is firmer and the fingers do not slip. It is missing here - it must have been lost somewhere during use. It is a removable, replaceable item. If you have a damaged arm in an old condenser and you are looking for a replacement - do not throw away your old rubber, you can move it over without any trouble.
The working position of the whole arm with the top lens is set by a pair of stops - the small screw on the arm rests against the screw in the body. Thanks to this the lens locks in the same place every time it comes back and does not have to be centred again each time.
This particular part was removed from an Olympus BH2-SC condenser taken out of an Olympus BH-2 BHS microscope.
I could not confirm this, but everything indicates that this arm will also fit the microscope condensers for Olympus BX microscopes: - Olympus U-SC - Olympus U-SC-2 - Olympus U-SC3
The microscope condensers listed above are sometimes referred to collectively as: - Olympus Achromat 0.9 flip-out condenser - Olympus 0.9 swing-out condenser
Before you decide to use this arm in a condenser other than the one it was removed from - compare its appearance and dimensions carefully.
What goes wrong in this mechanism? Here is an example list of problems that can be solved by replacing the arm: - the arm wobbles on its axis when the pivot screw is loose or worn - the lens stops returning to its place when the stop screw has been unscrewed or lost, for example during cleaning - the lens mount gets damaged when someone tries to force the lens out without undoing the three screws - the casting cracks when the condenser is dropped - the arm sticks out beyond the outline and takes the impact first
This arm is not a spare part for a microscope. It is a part for repairing or rebuilding the condenser - and that condenser can sit in various microscopes.
When replacing the arm with another one, bear in mind that the stop for the working position sits on the arm itself. A new arm will most probably have to be readjusted with that one screw until the lens sets itself exactly on the axis of the light path.
When the arm is swung out, there is no optics left above the iris diaphragm - only the protective glass cemented into the body remains (https://www.microscopeparts.eu/part/99926). It is what then protects the diaphragm blades (https://www.microscopeparts.eu/part/99927) from dirt falling from the stage.
Here are examples of microscope models in which the condensers that this arm fits are most often used: - Olympus BH-2: BHS / BHT / BHTU - Olympus BX: BX40 / BX50 / BX51 / BX60
The most important microscopes used with the condenser models mentioned here are listed in the "compatibility" section, but this is by no means a complete list.
The last photos show the microscope condenser that the arm offered here comes from - and a blue arrow points to the part I am talking about.
A curiosity: it is possible that this part also fits the Meiji MA976 microscope condenser.

Olympus BX / GX LMPlan Apo 250x/0.90 BD microscope objective oo/0 infinity W26 M26 EPI Dark Field and Bright Field | Nomarski DIC and Polarization compatible
|
|
Description of this part for the microscope.
Olympus LMPlan Apo 250x/0.90 BD ∞/0 microscope objective with W26 / M26 thread - intended for Olympus BX / GX and MX microscopes.
Important: this is not a
...
microscope objective with an RMS thread. The very similar Olympus 250x/0.90 microscope objective with an RMS thread does not carry "BD" in its name and cannot work in darkfield.
Basic technical and optical parameters: Manufacturer: Olympus (Japan) Marking on the barrel: Olympus LMPlanApo 250x/0.90 BD ∞/0 Magnification: 250x Numerical aperture: 0.90 Working distance (WD): 0.80 mm Objective focal length: 0.72 mm Parfocal distance: 45 mm Optical system: infinity corrected, actual tube lens focal length 180 mm Cover glass: no - works without a cover glass Mounting thread: W26 x 0.706 mm (1 in. x 0.03 in.), although the designation M26 is in common use Objective barrel diameter: 32 mm Objective weight: 170 g Correction class: plan apochromat (Plan Apochromat) Observation techniques: brightfield in reflected light EPI and in transmitted light, darkfield (BD) in reflected light EPI, polarized light in reflected light EPI and in transmitted light, Nomarski differential interference contrast in reflected light (requires the appropriate prism) Field Number: 26.5 Series: LMPlanApo-BD, UIS system Intended use: Olympus metallurgical, polarizing and inspection microscopes of the BX, GX and MX series, as well as BXFM modules
A note on the thread type: in the BD objectives of the UIS system Olympus uses the W26 thread, that is an inch thread in Whitworth form (W26 x 0.706 mm). Since most users are accustomed to describing microscope objective threads with the Mxx designation, one very often comes across the statement that these objectives have an M26 thread. This designation is formally incorrect, but it functions as a widespread and acceptable shorthand.
This objective can also be used with classic, biological Olympus BX microscopes - it is enough to replace the objective nosepiece in the microscope with the Olympus U-D5BDRE model. It will then work in transmitted light brightfield (DIA) - but still only for specimens without a cover glass.
To generalize - this objective can work in the following microscopes: - Olympus BX41 / BX51 / BX61 and their "M" variants - Olympus BXFM - Olympus GX51 / GX71 - Olympus MX50 / MX51 / MX61
One more thing that can cause confusion when looking for parts: Olympus microscopes are no longer made by Olympus. In April 2022 Olympus spun off the division responsible for microscopes, and a separate company called Evident was created from it, operating independently from the following year. The Olympus name was still used on the products themselves for some time, which is why today you come across both equipment labelled Olympus and the same equipment under the Evident brand. Apart from the name on the housing, nothing has changed in the technical or optical construction of the microscopes. So - this objective fits microscopes sold under both brands, under both Olympus and Evident.
