Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval / Jenamed microscope central, round end cap with interpillary distance scale for 30 mm wide field binocular head

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval / Jenamed microscope central, round end cap with interpillary distance scale for 30 mm wide field binocular head

Description of this part for the microscope.

Central, round end cap with an interpupillary distance scale for the Carl Zeiss Jena wide-field (German: Grossfeld) binocular head.

This component is located at ...

the front, in the centre of the binocular head, between the two eyepiece tubes. It is a round cover plate (end cap) carrying a scale from 55 to 75 indicating the interpupillary distance (eyepiece tube spacing).

The last photograph in the gallery shows the complete binocular head. An arrow indicates the exact component being offered and its location within the head, allowing it to be identified unambiguously.

This is a component of the binocular head rather than a component dedicated to a particular microscope model.

This component fits 30 mm eyepiece binocular heads used, among others, on the following microscopes:
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalab
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenatech
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenavert

Some Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalab and Jenamed microscopes (for example the Jenamed Fluorescence) were factory-equipped with binocular heads accepting 23.2 mm eyepieces. In that case this end cap is **not** compatible with that binocular head. By "that" I specifically mean the binocular head, as this is a component of the head rather than of the microscope itself.

Interestingly, 30 mm wide-field binocular heads are also occasionally fitted to older microscopes from the Mikroval series (for example Ergaval and Amplival). When combined with GF-Planachromat or GF-Planapochromat objectives (the latter also used on the Docuval), this provides arguably the best optical combination available for Carl Zeiss Jena microscopes with a 160 mm tube length.

The Carl Zeiss Jena wide-field binocular head for 30 mm eyepieces is mechanically the same device as the Baader Mark V binocular viewer used with astronomical telescopes. They are based on the same binocular head; the Baader Mark V differs only in having a modified mounting interface, astronomical eyepiece adapters and, in some versions, different external markings. Consequently, the component offered here is also compatible with the Baader Mark V binocular viewer.

Zeiss Photomicroscope / Universal cover ring / metal collar concealing the microscope body to intermediate tube connection

The name of this microscope part.

Zeiss Photomicroscope / Universal cover ring / metal collar concealing the microscope body to intermediate tube connection

Description of this part for the microscope.

Metal cover ring concealing the connection between the microscope body and the intermediate tube (the so-called trino / photo intermediate tube) for Zeiss Universal and ...

Photomicroscope (Phomi) microscopes.

This cover ring contains a small screw that secures the ring in place so that it fits tightly around the joint between the two microscope components.

The accompanying video, using a Zeiss Photomicroscope II as an example, shows exactly where this cover ring is located on the microscope and how it is installed and removed.

On the secondary market, many Zeiss Phomi (Photomicroscope) and Zeiss Universal microscopes are missing this cover ring, which may allow dust to enter the optical system. Why is this cover ring often missing?
- first, it can be removed very easily, so over the years it may simply get lost
- secondly, the microscope body and the trino intermediate tube are often sold separately, so this cover ring frequently ends up being included in neither the first transaction nor the second

Zeiss Photomicroscope / Universal microscope EPI fluorescence illuminator cap cover plug

The name of this microscope part.

Zeiss Photomicroscope / Universal microscope EPI fluorescence illuminator cap cover plug

Description of this part for the microscope.

Cap cover for the EPI reflected-light illuminator—most commonly a fluorescence illuminator—for Zeiss Universal and Photomicroscope (Phomi) microscopes. ...

This is a round plastic cap with a metal insert, designed to cover the output port of the EPI illuminator. It is removed when an EPI fluorescence illuminator turret is installed (for example, on the Zeiss Photomicroscope III RS).

Please note that some versions of the Zeiss Universal microscope do not have an EPI reflected-light illuminator port.

The accompanying video, using a Zeiss Photomicroscope II as an example, shows exactly where this cap is located on the microscope and how it is installed and removed.

On the secondary market, many Zeiss Phomi (Photomicroscope) and Zeiss Universal microscopes are missing this cap. As a result, dust can enter the illumination system (in other words, the light path). Why is this cap often missing?
- first, it can be removed very easily, so over the years it may simply get lost
- secondly, the microscope body and the EPI fluorescence illuminator turret are often sold separately, so after the turret has been removed, the EPI illuminator port remains uncovered

PZO MST-130 / 131 stereo microscope eyepiece tubes end cups / Carl Zeiss Jena SM-xx compatible dust protection

The name of this microscope part.

PZO MST-130 / 131 stereo microscope eyepiece tubes end cups / Carl Zeiss Jena SM-xx compatible dust protection

Description of this part for the microscope.

Dust protection end caps for the eyepiece tubes of PZO stereo microscopes and colposcopes.

These end caps are designed to protect empty eyepiece tubes whenever ...

the eyepieces are removed for transport or storage inside the wooden carrying case. Installing the caps prevents dust from entering the microscope head and reaching the internal prisms.

The offer applies to 2 (two) pieces, i.e. one pair. Each individual end cap features the original PZO logo.

These end caps fit stereo microscopes from any manufacturer, provided they use eyepieces with a mounting diameter of 34 mm:
- PZO MST-1 / MST-2
- PZO MST-130 / MST-131 / MST-132
- PZO MST ZOOM
- PZO KLP-21 / KLP-22 colposcopes
- DIY devices (e.g. queen bee insemination equipment) built using PZO MST stereo microscopes
- Meopta DM23
- Carl Zeiss Jena Stemi SM-16 / SM-20 (the so-called SM-xx series)
- medical optical instruments (e.g. ophthalmic slit lamps) manufactured by Carl Zeiss Jena and based on the SM-xx stereo microscope platform

These end caps do not fit microscopes using eyepieces with diameters other than 34 mm:
- they do not fit PZO MST-110 / MST-127 stereo microscopes because these use 23.2 mm eyepieces
- they do not fit Lomo MBC-1 / MBC-2 stereo microscopes because these use 30 mm eyepieces
- they do not fit Lomo MBC-9 / MBC-10 stereo microscopes because these use 32 mm eyepieces
- they do not fit Carl Zeiss Jena Technival / Citoval stereo microscopes because these use 23.2 mm eyepieces
- they do not fit Carl Zeiss West Germany stereo microscopes because these use 30 mm eyepieces
- they do not fit Euromex E-series and Z-series stereo microscopes because these use 30.5 mm eyepieces
- they do not fit Hertel & REUSS STE-series stereo microscopes because these use 31 mm eyepieces

The FAQ section of this database explains that these are genuine original parts rather than 3D-printed reproductions. It is worth repeating here: these are original vintage PZO plastic end caps. They are not generic "no-name" caps and they are not DIY parts made on a 3D printer.

The last photographs in the gallery show an example of these end caps installed on the head of a PZO MST-130 stereo microscope.

Lomo Polam polarizing microscope condenser height position limiter

The name of this microscope part.

Lomo Polam polarizing microscope condenser height position limiter

Description of this part for the microscope.

Condenser height position limiter for Lomo Polam polarizing microscopes.

In Lomo Polam polarizing microscopes, a swing-out frosted diffuser module can be mounted ...

below the condenser. In most microscopes this module is installed, but it is a separate accessory and does not have to be present. Directly below it is the location where the component offered here is mounted.

This component performs at least two functions:
- it limits the vertical movement of the condenser and specifically prevents it from being lowered too far
- it acts as a blanking plate if there are no additional accessories installed below the condenser diffuser

However, if this component serves as a blanking plate, what other accessories can be mounted there? The most commonly encountered optional accessory for Lomo Polam microscopes is the Lomo MIP-2 monochromator (this is the model designation written in the Latin alphabet). Since this is optional equipment, this blanking plate performs its function exactly at this location.

This blanking plate is also attractive to users who need an original mounting point below the condenser (appropriate dovetail mount and clamping screw - this blanking plate provides all of these features) in order to attach their own DIY accessory intended to be placed in the optical path.

In the last photograph, an arrow indicates which component is being offered and where it is located in the microscope, allowing this microscope part to be identified unambiguously.

Zeiss Standard microscope end cap for switch to turn axis under the head (47 30 65)

The name of this microscope part.

Zeiss Standard microscope end cap for switch to turn axis under the head (47 30 65)

Description of this part for the microscope.

Blanking plug for the wide field lens lever (Zeiss P/N 47 30 65) for Carl Zeiss Standard series microscopes.

Zeiss Standard microscopes feature an optional wide ...

field lens (Zeiss P/N 47 30 68). It can be installed in the tube between the objective nosepiece and the observation head. The lens is operated by a lever protruding from the side of the tube. In the manufacturer's documentation, this lever is referred to as "Switch to turn axis, e.g. with wide field changer 0.8x-1x". If this optional microscope component is not installed, the opening intended for the lever is closed with a plastic blanking plug additionally secured by a retaining screw. This listing includes exactly that end cap and screw.

This particular cover was removed from a Zeiss Standard 14 microscope, which is not normally equipped with the lever-operated lens. However, it will most likely fit the majority of other Standard series models, for example:
- Zeiss Standard GFL
- Zeiss Standard 16
- Zeiss Standard WL 89

The blanking plug itself carries the catalog number Zeiss 47 30 65 (alternative notation: Zeiss 473065) and is described as an "intermediate tube cover element".

Not only is this plastic cap frequently lost over the years, but the lever itself or the lens assembly may also become damaged and require removal. In such cases, this blanking plug should be installed to protect the microscope optics from dust.

In the last photographs in the gallery, I use arrows to show exactly which microscope component is being offered and where it is located within the microscope.
