Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval / Jenalumar plastic sheet cover for the microscope base

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval / Jenalumar plastic sheet cover for the microscope base

Description of this part for the microscope.

Plastic bottom cover for the microscope base.

Compatible with, among others:
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenavert
- Carl Zeiss Jena ...

Jenapol
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar

This cover serves two main functions in the microscope:
- it protects the power supply and all electrical components built into the microscope base, protecting both the electrical system and the user from electric shock
- it protects the optical components located inside the microscope base from dust and other contamination

The base of Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval, Jenalumar and similar microscopes contains part of the optical light path, and this area occasionally requires maintenance, especially cleaning. Since these microscopes are now more than 30 years old, it is not uncommon to find examples with this cover missing because it has been lost over the years.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval / Jenalumar microscope transmitted light path tube with frosted filter and collimating lens

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval / Jenalumar microscope transmitted light path tube with frosted filter and collimating lens

Description of this part for the microscope.

Transmitted-light path assembly with a frosted filter for Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval, Jenalumar and similar microscopes.

Compatible with the following Carl Zeiss ...

Jena microscope models:
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenapol
- can also be installed in a Carl Zeiss Jena Jenavert microscope to add transmitted-light capability

This component is located inside the microscope base. It receives the light beam from the illuminator, homogenises it (by diffusing the image of the lamp filament using a frosted filter acting as a diffuser) and then properly collimates it using a collimating lens. The prepared light beam then passes through another lens before reaching the right-angle mirror (sold as a separate component).

This part is well known on the secondary market among hobbyists and engineers building their own DIY optical projects, where it is frequently reused.

Interestingly, microscope versions intended exclusively for reflected-light operation (for example, the basic versions of the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenavert) do not contain this component because they do not have a transmitted-light optical path. However, both the microscope arm and the microscope base are identical to those used in transmitted-light models. This makes it possible to upgrade such an EPI microscope for transmitted-light operation by installing the complete lower transmitted-light optical path. The component offered here is one of the parts required for this conversion.

In the last photograph, an arrow indicates where this component is located inside the microscope, making it easy to identify.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval / Jenavert microscope side metal sheet cover

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval / Jenavert microscope side metal sheet cover

Description of this part for the microscope.

Side sheet-metal cover for the vertical microscope body of Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval, Jenavert and similar microscopes.

Compatible with the following Carl Zeiss ...

Jena microscope models:
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenapol
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenavert

This component serves almost exclusively a cosmetic purpose. At both the top and bottom of the sheet-metal cover there are openings through which the long screws pass. These screws secure the transmitted-light lamp housing to the rear of the microscope body (at the bottom) or the reflected-light EPI lamp housing (at the top).

Each microscope has two of these sheet-metal covers—one on the left side and one on the right. Both are identical, so there is no difference between the left-hand and right-hand cover.

The cover is attached using ordinary adhesive and, after many years, it may simply come loose and fall off. These covers are also sometimes lost during repairs or maintenance, so older microscopes are often missing them. Reattaching an original cover is an easy way to restore the microscope to its original appearance.

In the last photograph, an arrow indicates where this component is located on the microscope, making it easy to identify.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval / Jenapol microscope 6V 25W halogen lamp house with filter wheel

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval / Jenapol microscope 6V 25W halogen lamp house with filter wheel

Description of this part for the microscope.

6V 25W halogen lamp house with a colour filter wheel for Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval and similar microscopes.

Compatible with the following Carl Zeiss Jena microscope ...

models:
1. Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval
2. Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar
3. Carl Zeiss Jena Jenapol
4. Carl Zeiss Jena Jenavert

1. In Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval microscopes, this lamp house is used as the transmitted-light illuminator.

2a. In Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar 50 microscopes (equipped with the small HBO 50 fluorescent lamp house, identical to the one used in Carl Zeiss Jena Jenamed Fluorescence microscopes), this lamp house serves as the transmitted-light source.

2b. Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar 250 microscopes are equipped with a large integrated lamp house. The unit offered here is therefore not compatible with this model.

3. In Carl Zeiss Jena Jenapol microscopes, this halogen lamp house is used both for transmitted light (mounted underneath) and for reflected light (mounted on the top). However, some Jenapol versions are equipped only for transmitted-light operation or only for reflected-light operation.

4. Carl Zeiss Jena Jenavert microscopes are normally equipped with a different lamp housing for reflected light. However, when the original unit is missing, users often modify a lamp house like the one offered here for DIY projects. In addition, if a Jenavert is equipped with a transmitted-light optical path, this lamp house is used as its transmitted-light source.

The lamp house is attached to the microscope using two long screws. Unusually—and this often makes them difficult to find—the screws are removed FROM THE FRONT of the microscope. Their heads are accessible through openings in the white sheet-metal side covers of the microscope body. These covers with the screw openings are shown in this database under item number 99692.

This lamp house contains a filter wheel with four positions for 32 mm diameter round filters. It is fitted with the same filter configuration originally supplied by Carl Zeiss Jena for the Jenaval model:
- one position is empty
- Carl Zeiss Jena C312 blue filter
- Carl Zeiss Jena D282 grey filter
- Carl Zeiss Jena V231 green filter

The filter wheel is an optional part of this lamp house. The example offered here is fitted with it, but it can be removed and the illuminator will still function perfectly as a light source.

Cast or injection-moulded ZnAl components manufactured by Carl Zeiss Jena carry identification numbers. The housing of this lamp house bears the number 2670 (full marking: 2670 Si10 CZ).

In the last photograph, an arrow indicates where this component is located in the microscope, making it easy to identify.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval / Jenapol microscope internal power supply and electrics

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval / Jenapol microscope internal power supply and electrics

Description of this part for the microscope.

Internal power supply (transformer and electronics) with brightness control potentiometer for Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval and similar microscopes.

This is a ...

transformer assembly installed inside the microscope base. It converts an input voltage of 110–240 V into a 6 V output with a maximum power of 25 W. It is intended to power a halogen lamp house. An example of this lamp house can be found in this database under item number 99693.

This is not the power supply for the 50W/100W reflected-light lamp housing used on the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenavert. It is also not the power supply for the fluorescent lamp houses used on the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar.

Compatible with the following microscope models:
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenaval
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenapol
- Carl Zeiss Jena Jenavert

If you only need one component from this assembly—for example the transformer, one of the electronic circuit boards or just the potentiometer used to adjust the lamp brightness—please contact us by email or through our social media channels.

This complete assembly may be useful for solving the following microscope problems, among others:
- if the microscope illumination no longer works because of a faulty power supply. This may be caused by mains voltage surges, ageing electronic components or damage resulting from incorrect modifications (for example, conversion to LED lighting)
- if the illumination works but the brightness can no longer be adjusted because the potentiometer is worn out or defective

Originally, the complete power supply assembly (transformer, electronic circuit boards and wiring) is installed inside the microscope base, and it is offered here exactly in that configuration. How can it be used?
- the electrical components can be removed and used as spare parts to repair a damaged power supply
- the complete microscope base can be transplanted to another microscope (please note that it does not include any optical components)

An interesting DIY modification is to leave the power supply in the base offered here and then place the microscope on top of that base. This effectively raises the microscope while also providing an integrated power supply for a second lamp house.

Carl Zeiss Jena Ergaval / Amplival microscope condenser holder model MZ

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Ergaval / Amplival microscope condenser holder model MZ

Description of this part for the microscope.

Holder for mounting interchangeable microscope condensers for Carl Zeiss Jena microscopes.

This condenser holder is a separate, removable module that can be ...

unscrewed. It is mounted onto the dovetail guide located underneath the microscope stage carrier and secured with a clamping screw.

Carl Zeiss Jena Ergaval microscopes were originally equipped with a condenser attached to the "MO" holder. This holder has a permanently mounted iris diaphragm and wide-field lens, while the condenser itself is screwed into the upper thread. In this configuration, the condenser cannot be exchanged.
The Carl Zeiss Jena Fluoval uses a similar arrangement, whereas the Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival was originally equipped with a panchromatic condenser.

If the user wishes to use other condensers (including those made by manufacturers other than Carl Zeiss Jena), the original condenser holder must be replaced with the MZ condenser holder. Once this has been done, any microscope condenser with a mounting diameter of 39.5 mm can be installed. Condensers with a 37 mm mounting diameter can also be used if they are fitted with a suitable adapter ring.

This is exactly such a holder for interchangeable condensers.

Basic specifications:
Manufacturer: Carl Zeiss Jena
Original documentation name and model: Kondensor-Einhänger MZ
Colour: grey, the version manufactured for the Mikroval microscope series
Internal diameter: for mounting condensers with a 39.5 mm mounting diameter (for example the Carl Zeiss Jena cardioid darkfield condenser)
Condenser retaining screw: yes, central condenser clamping screw
Centering screws: yes, two condenser centering screws
Microscope mounting: dovetail

Although this component is grey, it is also compatible with older black Carl Zeiss Jena microscopes from the 1950s and 1960s (it simply will not look completely original unless it is repainted).

This condenser holder is compatible with, among others:
- Carl Zeiss Jena Ng (black microscope)
- Carl Zeiss Jena Polmi-A (black microscope)
- Carl Zeiss Jena Nf (black microscope)
- Carl Zeiss Jena Nu (the NU-2 version is grey)
- Carl Zeiss Jena Ergaval (grey microscope)
- Carl Zeiss Jena Fluoval / Fluoval-2 (grey microscope)

Carl Zeiss Jena Fluoval-2 / Laboval FL microscope fluorescence filter cube 450nm

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Fluoval-2 / Laboval FL microscope fluorescence filter cube 450nm

Description of this part for the microscope.

450 nm fluorescence filter cube for Carl Zeiss Jena Fluoval-2 and Laboval Fluoreszenz fluorescence microscopes.

This filter cube, sometimes also called a ...

reflector, performs two functions:
- it contains a barrier filter (emission filter) for the 450 nm wavelength
- it acts as an angular mirror, reflecting the light beam from the EPI fluorescence illuminator vertically downward through the objective toward the specimen.

This fluorescence filter cube fits the following EPI fluorescence microscopes:
- Carl Zeiss Jena Fluoval Fluoreszenz
- Carl Zeiss Jena Fluoval-2 (built on the Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival microscope platform)

Important – this microscope component does not fit the first version of the Carl Zeiss Jena Fluoval microscope. The Fluoval microscope (without "2") does not use a filter cube. Instead, it has a simple permanently mounted swing-out barrier filter.

The filter cube has two positions:
- empty, for normal transmitted-light operation
- 450 nm for reflected-light fluorescence (EPI) operation

Mechanically, this filter cube is installed between the objective nosepiece and the microscope head. It slides into a dedicated slot and moves along a dovetail guide. On the Carl Zeiss Jena Laboval Fluoreszenz microscope, this slot is located in the additional upper horizontal arm of the EPI fluorescence illuminator. On the Carl Zeiss Jena Fluoval-2 microscope, the slot is located in the EPI fluorescence arm, which is an integral part of the microscope. The Fluoval-2 is based on the Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival microscope, which has a modular design. Mechanically, the Fluoval-2 is essentially an Amplival equipped with an upper EPI fluorescence arm.

Sliding the cube along this dovetail guide switches between the empty position (transmitted light) and EPI fluorescence with the 450 nm filter.

Zeiss Photomicroscope II / Universal microscope 60W illuminator with lamp housing

The name of this microscope part.

Zeiss Photomicroscope II / Universal microscope 60W illuminator with lamp housing

Description of this part for the microscope.

60-watt microscope illuminator for Carl Zeiss (Oberkochen, West Germany) Standard series microscopes.

The basic versions of Carl Zeiss Standard series microscopes ...

are equipped with a base illuminator using a 6 V 15 W lamp. This can be replaced with:
a) a large 60-watt illuminator using a 12 V 60 W lamp
b) a halogen illuminator

This listing presents the illuminator described in option a), namely the 60 W incandescent lamp version.

Basic specifications of this illuminator:
Manufacturer: Carl Zeiss (Oberkochen, West Germany)
Model: 60-watt illuminator
Lamp voltage: 12 V
Lamp house mounting method: circular dovetail
Cooling: passive. The entire large lamp house also serves as a heat sink, dissipating the heat generated by the 60-watt lamp
Lamp socket centering screws: yes, the lamp socket is equipped with centering screws
Diffuser: yes, inside the lamp house, in front of the lamp condenser lens (the so-called illumination collector), there is a matte diffuser mounted in a flip-out holder

This particular unit was removed from a Carl Zeiss Photomicroscope II. However, it is compatible with most microscopes of the Zeiss Standard series.

This illuminator fits the following microscopes:
- Zeiss Standard 16 / GFL
- Zeiss Standard WL / WL 89
- Zeiss Universal
- Zeiss Photomicroscope
- Zeiss Photomicroscope II
- Zeiss Photomicroscope III RS
- and also the Zeiss IM 35 / ICM 405 inverted microscope

The following is a quotation from the Zeiss Photomicroscope II instruction manual:

60-watt illuminator

Instead of the 6-v. 15-w base illuminator, the 60-watt illuminator may be firmly connected to the microscope stand. For this purpose, the collector tube with lamp condenser, 46 70 50, must be removed after unscrewing the bottom plate and replaced by the connecting tube, 46 70 41 (Fig. 15). The 60-watt illuminator is mounted in the usual manner with the aid of a dovetail ring, like a body tube, for example.

The variable transformer is identical to the one for the base illuminator and supplies voltages from 0 ... 20 volts. When this equipment is used, the red scale of the voltmeter applies.

Several important points should be mentioned:
- if your microscope is currently equipped with the standard 6 V 15 W illumination system, the illuminator mounting adapter must also be replaced (this is described in the instruction manual quoted above)
- the lamp house of this illuminator is finished in grey. Some Carl Zeiss Standard series microscopes have black, cream or hammered-finish housings. This illuminator is mechanically compatible with those models, although the colour may not be an aesthetically perfect match
- power supplies with a rated output of exactly 60 W are virtually unavailable on the second-hand market. In practice, 12 V 100 W power supplies are used to operate this light source
- please note that exactly the same (!) illuminator is also used on the Zeiss IM 35 / ICM 405 inverted microscopes. Please also refer to the description of illuminator No. 00697 in this database. YES – these are exactly the same illuminators. However, that particular unit was removed from an inverted microscope and therefore has its own separate description. You will also find additional photographs there. In the Zeiss IM 35 instruction manual, the lamp socket is referred to as "Lamp socket 60 P/N 46 80 15", while the lamp house is referred to as "Lamp housing with lamp condenser P/N 46 72 27"
- this illuminator can be used for both transmitted-light and reflected-light (EPI) illumination
- if you would like to manufacture your own DIY illuminator mounting adapter because you do not have the original Zeiss part (P/N 46 70 41), the following information may be useful: the circular dovetail on this illuminator has a diameter of 43 mm, which is the same as on many microscope condensers and mono-, binocular and trinocular microscope heads. This means that, for example, a microscope head mounting adapter can be used as the basis for manufacturing a custom DIY illuminator adapter

Important: The photographs show a lamp installed in the lamp socket. This lamp DOES NOT LIGHT because it is burned out. It is shown only so that you can see which lamp model is used in this illuminator.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar fluorescence microscope HBO 250W heat absorbing KG-filter glass

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar fluorescence microscope HBO 250W heat absorbing KG-filter glass

Description of this part for the microscope.

KG filter in a metal housing for absorbing heat from the fluorescent lamp of the large HBO 250W illuminator for a Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar microscope. ...

This filter is mounted in the sheet-metal housing of the large HBO 250W fluorescence illuminator. This illuminator is part of a large mirror light beam splitter used in Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar microscopes. The KG filter is designed to absorb heat (infrared radiation) emitted by the high-pressure HBO mercury lamp.

Please note that there is also a version of the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar microscopes with a small 50W HBO illuminator. This KG filter glass was removed from a large 250W illuminator.

On the used market, in microscopy forums and in microscopy groups, several names are used for this filter, all referring to the same type of filter:
- KG filter / KG glass
- heat filter
- heat absorbing filter
- heat absorption filter
- heat-absorbing glass
- heat absorption glass
- absorption filter
- IR filter
- infrared blocking filter
- infrared cut filter
- KG3 heat absorption filter

This microscope element is highly susceptible to damage. When this happens, the filter needs to be replaced, for example with the filter presented here. Here are examples of damage that can occur during use of the fluorescence illuminator and reasons why replacement of the filter may be necessary:
- the KG filter may crack or become cloudy due to overheating
- the filter may also chip or break as a result of mechanical damage, for example during transport
- the filter may sometimes be damaged during improper maintenance

High-performance heat filters such as this KG filter used with a 250W lamp are very often used by people building their own DIY projects. The housing with screw mounting makes this particularly convenient.

The last photo in the gallery shows the housing of the HBO 250W illuminator (lampenhaus), with an arrow indicating which element is being described and where it is located inside the illuminator. This makes it possible to identify the element unambiguously.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar microscope HBO 250W fluorescence illuminator spherical rear reflector

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar microscope HBO 250W fluorescence illuminator spherical rear reflector

Description of this part for the microscope.

Replacement element for the HBO 250W fluorescence illuminator for Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar microscopes.

This is a spherical rear reflector mounted inside the ...

fluorescence illuminator behind the high-pressure mercury burner. In Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar microscopes, the large HBO 250W fluorescence illuminator is attached to the Spiegelhaus for light beam splitting.

The function of this element is to collect and reflect toward the KG filter the light that "shines and escapes to the rear".

This mirror, located directly next to the light source, is susceptible to damage, among other things due to exposure to high temperatures. Additionally, when the high-pressure mercury burner explodes (which occasionally happens), the mirror is very often damaged by the explosion.

The photo gallery shows the exact dimensions of this element. The last photo shows the HBO 250W illuminator for a Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar microscope, allowing the compatibility to be confirmed with certainty.

Zeiss ICM 405 / IM 35 inverted microscope head mount ring with screw

The name of this microscope part.

Zeiss ICM 405 / IM 35 inverted microscope head mount ring with screw

Description of this part for the microscope.

The mounting ring for attaching the microscope head to the stand of the Carl Zeiss ICM 405 / IM 35 inverted microscope.

It is a ring-shaped female mounting ...

interface into which the microscope head is inserted and secured. It makes no difference whether a binocular or trinocular microscope head is mounted in this fitting.

- the inner diameter of this microscope head mount is 44 mm
- this mounting ring is attached to the microscope stand with three screws
- the ring has two small screws that both center and secure the microscope head, as they engage with the dovetail groove of the microscope head
- thanks to these screws, microscope heads with a dovetail diameter from 42.5 mm to 44 mm can be mounted in the ring
- the main spring-loaded clamping screw

This head mount was removed from a Carl Zeiss ICM 405 microscope, but it is also suitable for the IM 35 model.

Zeiss ICM 405 microscope photo camera adapter PN 471778

The name of this microscope part.

Zeiss ICM 405 microscope photo camera adapter PN 471778

Description of this part for the microscope.

Adapter for attaching a camera to the Carl Zeiss ICM 405 inverted microscope.

This adapter is mounted in the socket located at the bottom of the front panel of ...

the microscope body (see the last photo in the gallery). It is a replaceable component – the manufacturer provides various adapters for connecting different cameras at this location.

Basic parameters of this adapter:
Manufacturer: Carl Zeiss (Oberkochen, West Germany)
Catalog number: 47 17 78 (another notation: 471778)
Mounting to the microscope body: 50 mm diameter dovetail ring
Camera mounting to the adapter: ring with a 70 mm inner diameter
Clamping screw: yes, there is a screw for securing the camera

This camera mount was removed from a Carl Zeiss ICM 405 microscope, but it fits any microscope with a compatible mounting interface. It originally had an analog Zeiss M35 camera mounted in it.

The photos show the dimensions and exact appearance of this component from multiple angles. Additionally, the last photo shows the Zeiss ICM 405 microscope with an arrow indicating where this component is located on the microscope. This allows the component to be accurately identified and located.

The Carl Zeiss ICM 405 inverted microscope is an advanced version of the Carl Zeiss IM 35 inverted microscope. The main differences between the ICM 405 and the IM 35 are the ICM 405's more advanced microphotography capabilities.

However, many users treat these two models as essentially the same microscope and use the name “Zeiss IM 35” for both, sometimes only specifying that it is a “Zeiss IM 35 with photo output”.

Both models were also sold under the Opton brand, in which case they are respectively called Opton IM 35 and Opton ICM 405. Users often refer to them as a “Zeiss Opton microscope”.

Zeiss ICM 405 microscope side photo tube port PN 471772 | focusable camera trinocular adapter

The name of this microscope part.

Zeiss ICM 405 microscope side photo tube port PN 471772 | focusable camera trinocular adapter

Description of this part for the microscope.

Side-mounted photo tube P/N 47 17 72 for the Carl Zeiss ICM 405 inverted microscope.

This is an optional accessory for the Carl Zeiss ICM 405 inverted microscope. ...

Mechanically, this photo tube is mounted inside the microscope body, below the microscope head mount. It splits the light beam (image) travelling through the microscope head and eyepieces to the user's eyes. Part of the light beam is directed to the universal photo output.

Basic parameters of this photo tube:
Manufacturer: Carl Zeiss (Oberkochen, West Germany)
Catalog number: 47 17 72 (other notation: 471772 or 471772-9901)
Mounting to the microscope body: the tube is mounted inside the microscope, with only the adjustable output extending to the outside (a simple tube)
Camera mounting to the adapter: a straight tube with an inner diameter of 35 mm extends from the side of the microscope body. The outer diameter of the mounting section is approx. 39 mm
Focus adjustment: yes, the tube has a helical focusing ring for precise focus adjustment
Light beam splitting mode: the light beam is split (it is not 0/100 or 100/0), unfortunately I do not know the percentage of the light split (no documentation available)
Light-splitting element: partially reflecting beam-splitting mirror (not a cemented prism block)

This photo tube was removed from a Carl Zeiss ICM 405 microscope. However, it is a completely universal light-splitting tube, so with suitable DIY mounts it can be used in practically any microscope or other optical device (astronomical telescope, binoculars, spotting scope, spectrophotometer, etc.). The universal interface for connecting an image-recording device (a straight tube with a 35 mm inner diameter) allows, among other things, the use of digital cameras or DSLR cameras (with suitable adapters). Since the light beam is split, this output can be used for “simul-focal live” observation, meaning that in real time the same image can be seen simultaneously through the microscope eyepieces and by the camera.

Note: In one discussion on the Mikroskopie-Forum.de forum, it is mentioned that this tube was also used in Carl Zeiss Axiomat microscopes. The user refers to this component as “Zeiss 47 17 72-9901 Kino- und TV-Anschluß”, but I do not have documentation for this component and therefore cannot confirm this.

Carl Zeiss Jena Pictoval microscope monocular head for eyepiece with 23,2mm diameter | projection tube

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Pictoval microscope monocular head for eyepiece with 23,2mm diameter | projection tube

Description of this part for the microscope.

Monocular microscope head with adjustable tube tilt angle for eyepieces with a 23.2 mm mounting diameter.

This model of microscope head was used as a projection ...

head in Carl Zeiss Jena Pictoval projection microscopes (microprojectors). The adjustable tilt angle of the eyepiece tube, which held a projection eyepiece (usually f=100), allowed the position of the projected image on the projection surface to be changed.

Basic parameters:
Manufacturer: Carl Zeiss Jena
Eyepiece mounting diameter: 23.2 mm
Mounting to the microscope arm: 41 mm diameter dovetail ring

Because this microscope head has a Carl Zeiss Jena standard microscope mount (a 41 mm diameter dovetail ring), it can be mounted on most microscopes from this manufacturer (e.g. Carl Zeiss Jena Eduval, Laboval, Ergaval, Amplival, etc.), as well as on microscopes made by Lomo (e.g. Lomo Biolam), IOR and Meopta.

It seems useful to mention a few points:
- never look through this microscope head with the naked eye if a projection eyepiece is installed in it and the head is mounted in a Carl Zeiss Jena Pictoval microprojector. This may result in loss of eyesight due to the very high light output emitted by this microscope
- when mounting this microscope head on a microscope other than a Carl Zeiss Jena Pictoval, a different magnification scale may be obtained than with the original heads designed for the particular microscope model
- projecting a microscope image requires a great deal of light, i.e. a powerful illuminator. This is worth remembering if you intend to use this head to project an image from biological microscopes with standard incandescent illumination (e.g. 15 W 6 V), which is definitely not sufficient
- visual observation using this microscope head may be inconvenient because it has a different (smaller) tilt angle than standard monocular or binocular microscope heads

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar internal 6V 25W transmitted light halogen illuminator module for large multi-lamp housing

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar internal 6V 25W transmitted light halogen illuminator module for large multi-lamp housing

Description of this part for the microscope.

Transmitted-light halogen illuminator module – component for repairing the illuminator of a Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar microscope.

The illuminator module offered ...

here is not a standalone lamp housing (such as part number 99693 in this database). It is an internal component of the large, integrated illuminator used in Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar 250 microscopes.

Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar microscopes are available in two main versions:
1. with two small illuminators – with a separate 6 V 25 W halogen illuminator in a small housing (for transmitted light) and a separate HBO 50 W fluorescence illuminator in a small housing (for reflected light)
2. with a large, integrated module consisting of a mirror light splitter, an integrated transmitted-light module with a 6 V 25 W halogen lamp, and a large lamp housing for HBO 250 W fluorescence illumination

The component offered here is part of the second version of the Jenalumar microscope.

Basic parameters of this illuminator module:
Supported lamp: Narva HLWS 6 V 25 W halogen lamp
6 V power connection: this illuminator is connected to the distributor rail (see part number 99679 in this database)
Cooling: passive, in two ways. The Narva HLWS lamp has integrated cooling in the form of “wings”, while the entire illuminator is covered with a cover incorporating a finned heat sink (this is a separate component and is not part of the illuminator offered here)

The photo gallery shows the exact dimensions of this component. The last photo shows the complete HBO 250 W illuminator for the Carl Zeiss Jena Jenalumar microscope, with an arrow indicating this halogen illuminator module. This makes it possible to identify exactly where this component is located within the complete large microscope illuminator.

The name of this microscope part.

AmScope T720Q microscope trinocular head with photo and camera tube

Description of this part for the microscope.

Binocular microscope head with a third output for a camera or photo camera, i.e. a trinocular microscope head for the AmScope T720 microscope.

This is a fully ...

integrated element that is mechanically mounted at the very top of the AmScope T720 / T720Q microscope. It consists of:
- binocular eyepiece head
- angled tube
- output for the third optical light path, i.e. photo output

Basic technical parameters:
Manufacturer: AmScope

Carl Zeiss Jena Fluoval / Ergaval microscope Apl.1,4 condenser with iris diaphragm

The name of this microscope part.

Carl Zeiss Jena Fluoval / Ergaval microscope Apl. 1,4 high-aperture condenser with iris diaphragm

Description of this part for the microscope.

Aplanatic bright-field microscope condenser Apl. 1,4 by Carl Zeiss Jena, with mounting, wide-field lens and iris diaphragm.

Basic data and para ...

meters:
Manufacturer: Carl Zeiss Jena
Designation: Apl. 1,4
Name of the mount according to the manufacturer's catalogue: Kondensoreinhänger mfl 2, Bestellnummer 301080:021.26/0
Name of the condenser according to the manufacturer's catalogue: Aplanatischer Kondensor 1.4 mo / ms (applies only to the upper optical part)
Name of the condenser according to the manufacturer's catalogue: Kondensor hoher Lichtstärke mit Vorschaltsystem (applies to the entire module)
Version: grey colour with a black upper lens. Variant with a "dot" in the name after "Apl"
Numerical aperture N.A.: 1.4
Aperture diaphragm: yes, attached to the condenser mount
Wide-field lens: yes, it can be swung out of the optical path. This is the version with the large lens in a housing (see description below)
Removable upper lens: yes, it can be rotated
Mounting diameter: the optical part (condenser without diaphragm) has a mounting diameter of 39.5 mm and can be unscrewed from the condenser mount
Operating modes: the condenser can be used both as a dry condenser and as an immersion condenser

The entire part consists of the following elements:
- upper Apl. 1,4 lens
- screw-on/removable condenser (mo / ms)
- iris diaphragm screwed onto the condenser mount
- condenser mount model mfl 2
- swing-out wide-field lens
- two centering screws

This condenser is mainly used in Carl Zeiss Jena Fluoval / Fluoval-2 fluorescence microscopes. It is optimal for use with high-numerical-aperture apochromatic microscope objectives. For precisely this reason, users often install it on Carl Zeiss Jena Ergaval and Carl Zeiss Jena Amplival microscopes equipped with apochromatic objectives (Carl Zeiss Jena Apochromat).

It is worth mentioning again that this condenser can be used in two modes:
- without immersion oil on the upper lens of the condenser. In this case, it operates as a "dry condenser" and its numerical aperture N.A. is 0.9.
- with immersion oil on the upper lens of the condenser (i.e. underneath the microscope slide). In this case, it operates as an "immersion condenser" and its numerical aperture N.A. is 1.4, allowing a very bright image to be obtained – this is important in fluorescence microscopy or when using high-N.A. immersion objectives.

During production, this condenser was available in several versions:
- with a black upper lens, a dot in the model name (Apl. 1,4) and a wide-field module consisting of a single lens
- with a black upper lens, without a dot in the model name (Apl 1,4) and a single wide-field module consisting of several lenses (including one with a very small diameter)
- with a grey upper lens marked Apl 1,4mo2 and a single wide-field module consisting of several lenses (including one with a very small diameter)
- with a grey upper lens marked Apl 1,4mo2 and a wide-field module consisting of two independently swing-out lenses, each on its own mount

I have not found any information anywhere as to whether the above-mentioned versions differ in their operation. From experience, I know that they are used interchangeably – but I do not know whether any differences in operation can actually be noticed.

Mechanically, this condenser is mounted on dovetail rails located underneath the microscope stage. In Carl Zeiss Jena Ergaval microscopes, this is a separate condenser mounting block, whereas in Carl Zeiss Jena Fluoval / Amplival microscopes, the dovetail is located on the microscope stage holder block.

The manufacturer describes this condenser as follows: "High-intensity condenser with an auxiliary system for illuminating large fields while imaging the field diaphragm. [...] The condenser of the FLUOVAL 2 can be used as a dry and immersion condenser of the highest aperture to achieve the highest possible excitation intensity. It is equipped with a switchable wide-field system that illuminates the large fields of low-power objectives while providing a sharp image of the field diaphragm in the object plane."

The name of this microscope part.

Hund H600 / Wilovert A4/0.10 160/- RMS microscope objective 4x achromatic

Description of this part for the microscope.

Achromatic microscope objective by Hund Wetzlar.

Manufacturer: Hund Wetzlar
Magnification: 4x
Model: A 4/0.10 160/-
Numerical aperture N.A.: 0. ...

10
Cover glass: not required
Thread: RMS
Tube length: 160 mm
Focal length: 45 mm
Immersion: no (dry objective)
Thread: RMS

This objective can be used both:
- with biological microscopes using transmitted-light illumination
- with inverted microscopes
- with microscopes with reflected-light illumination
- for macro photography by directly connecting it to a camera

This objective fits practically any microscope from any manufacturer, provided that it has an RMS thread and supports objectives for TL=160 mm. Several examples of such microscopes are listed in the "compatibility" section, but this is not a complete list.

Several facts are worth emphasizing:
- many Hund Wetzlar microscope models are identical to models sold by Will Wetzlar due to their joint production. For example, the BX300 and Wilovert models even have the same name. Therefore, Hund Wetzlar microscope objectives can also be used with Will Wetzlar microscopes.
- the companies Eschenbach, Kremp Wetzlar, CBS Beck Kassel and Kosmos Stuttgart also used Will Wetzlar objectives, so Hund Wetzlar microscope objectives can also be used with microscopes from these manufacturers – but it is worth checking the focal length first (37 mm or 45 mm)
- objectives with magnifications below 16x (e.g. 4x / 5x or 10x) fit both classic biological microscopes, microscopes with reflected-light illuminators and inverted microscopes.

Optical N-117M / Brunel microscope head holder screw | BestScope BS-2020 and Delta Optical Genetic Pro compatible

The name of this microscope part.

Optical N-117M / Brunel microscope head holder screw | BestScope BS-2020 and Delta Optical Genetic Pro compatible

Description of this part for the microscope.

Head mounting screw for attaching a microscope head (e.g. a binocular or trinocular microscope head) to the microscope stand.

This screw fits many microscopes ...

based on the N-117M / DN-117M models.

The N-117M / DN-117M is a reasonably good laboratory microscope manufactured in a Chinese NYO factory and sold worldwide under various names. These microscopes are known and sold, among others, as:
- Delta Optical Genetic Pro (mainly in Poland)
- AmScope B340 / T340 (mainly in the USA and the rest of the world through Amazon)
- Labtron LEM-C10 / C11 / C12 (mainly in the United Kingdom)
- Sigeta MB-207 (mainly in Ukraine)

- Biocare DN-117M (mainly in Peru)
- Viresa N-117M (mainly in Mexico)
- Eurolab DN-117M
- Nexcope N-117M
- Novel N-117M

This is certainly not a complete list – many sellers give their microscopes their own names, just as Delta Optical does in Poland. The best way to check whether this screw fits your microscope is to compare the appearance of your microscope with the microscope from which this screw was removed (/microscope/optical-n-117m-388).

The N-117M version has a binocular or trinocular microscope head, while the DN-117M model has a built-in digital USB camera (hence the "D" at the beginning of the name, standing for "Digital") – however, the head mounting screw is the same in both cases.

Replacing the head mounting screw may be necessary, for example, when:
- the screw is missing from the microscope, which is common with used microscopes
- the screw in the microscope is bent or broken, which often happens when the microscope is not properly secured for transport
- the screw in the microscope is in poor condition, e.g. damaged because someone tried to force it out with pliers

The name of this microscope part.

Optical N-117M / Brunel coaxial microscope stage control knobs | BestScope BS-2020 and Delta Optical Genetic Pro compatible

Description of this part for the microscope.

Complete control handle (handwheel) of the mechanical XY stage for microscopes based on the N-117M / DN-117M models.

This is a complete control assembly for the ...

mechanical microscope stage, allowing precise movement of the specimen in both the X and Y axes of the stage plane. The manipulator consists of two coaxial knobs, two independent drive shafts and the fixing elements that attach it to the stage mechanism.

The N-117M / DN-117M microscope is a fairly good laboratory microscope manufactured at the Chinese NYO factory and sold worldwide under various names. These microscopes are known and sold, among others, as:
- Delta Optical Genetic Pro (mainly in Poland)
- AmScope B340 / T340 (mainly in the USA and the rest of the world through Amazon)

- Viresa N-117M (mainly in Mexico)

This is certainly not a complete list – many sellers give the microscopes they sell their own names (just like Delta Optical in Poland). The best way to check whether this microscope part fits your microscope is to compare the appearance of your microscope with the microscope from which this microscope part was removed (/microscope/optical-n-117m-388).

The N-117M model has a binocular or trinocular head, while the DN-117M model has a built-in digital USB camera (hence the “D” at the beginning of the name, for “Digital”) – but the microscope body is identical, so the stage control handle is also the same in both models.

On the second-hand market and in service documentation one encounters many names referring to this assembly. The most commonly used terms include, among others:
- stage manipulator
- XY stage manipulator
- mechanical stage drive
- stage control knobs
- specimen mover
- coaxial stage drive
- stage drive assembly
- mechanical stage control
- manual XY stage drive
- stage actuator mechanism

Such manipulators very often suffer mechanical damage during transport of the microscope. Because they protrude beyond the outline of the stand, it is precisely they that absorb the impact energy first — in the event of a fall or improper packaging of the instrument.

Damage to the manipulator does not make further work with the microscope impossible. The specimen can be moved by hand, or a simple specimen holder without an XY movement mechanism can be fitted. Such a solution works well at low magnifications; however, when working with objectives of magnifications greater than 40x (e.g. 60x, 63x, 80x or 100x), precise manual movement of the specimen becomes very difficult. At total magnifications exceeding about 400x, even a slight movement of the hand shifts the image by a considerable distance within the field of view. The mechanical manipulator enables very smooth, controlled and repeatable movement of the specimen in both axes, which is particularly important during observation with oil immersion and when producing photographic documentation.

The photographs in the gallery show the exact dimensions of the complete manipulator. The last photograph presents the entire microscope stage together with an arrow indicating the mounting location of this element, which makes it possible to identify the offered part unambiguously.

Microscopes based on the N-117M model have an objective nosepiece tilted inward, and in my opinion this is why a Telan lens is required even though this is a microscope using optics corrected for a 160 mm tube length.

Other names are sometimes used for the Telan lens installed in the microscope, for example:
- nosepiece lens
